As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a Part-Time Assistant Accountant to join our team in Newport.

We’re initially hiring this role on a part-time basis, but for the right person, our intention is for the role to transition into a full-time position as we continue to grow. So, if you're looking for somewhere you can build a longer-term career rather than simply pick up a few part-time hours, this could be a great fit.

The Role

You’ll be right in the middle of the day-to-day running of our client accounts.

This isn’t a role where you’ll spend every day entering receipts into a spreadsheet. You’ll work across a variety of interesting businesses, helping us keep their finances organised, accurate and up to date.

You’ll work closely with the wider team, gradually taking on more responsibility as your experience and confidence grow.

What You'll Be Doing

• Bookkeeping – keeping client accounts accurate and up to date using cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks and Dext.
• Bank & balance sheet reconciliations – making sure everything ties up and investigating when it doesn’t.
• VAT returns – helping prepare, review and submit quarterly VAT returns.
• Accounts support – preparing trial balances and supporting information for management accounts, year-end accounts and tax returns.
• Accounts payable & receivable – helping clients stay on top of money coming in and going out.
• Client communication – speaking directly with clients to chase information, answer straightforward queries and make their lives easier.
• Client onboarding – helping us get new clients set up properly across our systems.
• Improving how we work – we're a growing business, so we'll want your ideas on how we can make our processes quicker, smarter and better.

Who We're Looking For

You don’t need to know everything on day one.

We’re looking for someone who has a good accounting foundation, wants to keep learning and enjoys working with people as much as they enjoy working with numbers.

You might already have some experience in an accountancy practice, bookkeeping role or finance team and now want somewhere you can develop further.

You may be studying towards, or considering studying towards:

AAT | ACCA | ACA | CIMA

We're open to different routes. Your attitude, attention to detail and willingness to learn matter just as much to us.

You'll ideally:

• Have some practical bookkeeping, accounting or finance experience.
• Understand the basics of UK bookkeeping and accounting.
• Be comfortable using cloud accounting software - particularly Xero.
• Be organised and able to manage several client deadlines at once.
• Have great attention to detail.
• Be confident communicating with clients and colleagues.
• Be comfortable asking questions when you're unsure.
• Enjoy working in a fast-moving environment where no two clients are quite the same.
• Want to develop your accounting career rather than simply have another job.

What We Offer

Salary: £25,000–£30,000 FTE, pro rata depending on experience and qualifications

Hours: Initially 15–22.5 hours per week, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role for the right person

Hybrid working: A mixture of working from home and from our Newport office

Study support: Potential funding and study leave for AAT, ACCA, ACA or CIMA

Career development: This isn't intended to stay a small part-time role forever. We're growing and want someone who can grow with us, take on more responsibility and potentially move into a full-time position.

Real client exposure: You'll work with clients rather than being hidden away doing data entry

Modern accounting: Cloud-based systems, automation and technology are a big part of how we work
