Assistant Accountant

Background and Role

IMCD UK is based in Sutton, Surrey, and employs over 300 people. Representing major producers, IMCD salespeople are market focused technical experts who offer solutions for customers’ problems utilising the comprehensive and complementary product portfolio. Through its people, their expertise, and the creation of open and lasting partnerships, IMCD is able to analyse market trends and provide advice on formulation, production process and application, thus generating unrivalled growth for our principal partners.

To support the finance team in delivering accurate and timely financial information, with responsibility for transactional accounting, reconciliations, month-end support, and day-to-day financial operations. The role plays an important part in ensuring robust financial controls within a regulated and safety-focused chemical distribution environment.

Your responsibilities at IMCD:

Bank and Cash Management

• Perform daily reconciliations
• Ensure timely posting of bank transactions into the accounting system

General Ledger

• Post journals and assist with month-end closing
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date ledger entries
• Reconcile key control accounts (GRNI, duty accruals, freight accruals, stock in transit, rebates)

Reporting

• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts
• Support preparation of management accounts, variance analysis, and KPI reporting (e.g., margin, inventory, freight costs)

Compliance and Controls

• Ensure adherence to company policies and controls
• Assist with internal and external audits

Ad-hoc tasks

• Provide support for projects and process improvements within the finance team
• Query management across multiple business stakeholders
• Any other ad hoc tasks as required

Ideal Candidate:

• Studying towards AAT qualification or AAT qualified.
• Previous experience in an accounting role
• Proficient in excel and accounting software (SAP / JD Edwards preferable)
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience in a multicurrency environment
