Assistant Accountant

The opportunity

We’re working with an established New Zealand manufacturing business looking for an Assistant Accountant to join their finance team.

This is a broad role suited to someone with around five years’ accounting experience, or a part-qualified accountant looking to step up. You’ll work closely with the Financial Controller across financial reporting, compliance, reconciliations and general accounting, while also supporting wider business projects.

The role has plenty of scope to develop over time, so we’re looking for someone who is keen to learn, get involved and grow with the business.

What you will do

• Prepare journals, reconciliations and monthly financial reporting
• Assist with budgets, annual accounts and management reporting
• Prepare GST, FBT, PAYE and other statutory returns
• Maintain the fixed asset register and assist with stock analysis
• Support the Finance Officer and provide backup across the finance team
• Assist with ERP system updates, testing and improvements
• Get involved in finance and wider business projects

What we are looking for

• Around 5 years’ accounting experience, ideally in commercial or manufacturing
• Relevant accounting study or a willingness to continue developing
• Strong Excel skills and good understanding of general ledger and reconciliations
• ERP experience; Greentree would be advantageous
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Practical, hands-on approach and good communication skills
• Someone who fits well into an established, collaborative team
• NZ driver licence
