Assistant Accountant – Luxury Design Brand | Central London

Monday to Friday| Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day from home

A well-established, privately owned luxury design brand in Central London is looking for an Assistant Accountant. This is a broad, hands-on role in a small finance team within a growing business with an international client base.

About the business:

Our client is a highly regarded, privately owned luxury design business with a strong reputation in its field and a growing international presence. It has expanded steadily in recent years and now employs around 80 people from its Central London base.

The finance team sits at the centre of a business with several revenue streams, including retail, trade, bespoke commissions and project work. That makes for varied, interesting work and real exposure to how a premium, owner-led brand operates.

Assistant Accountant – The role

You will report to the Finance Manager and take ownership of the day-to-day ledgers, bank reconciliations and month-end support.

• Purchase ledger: code, approve and post supplier invoices and credit notes with the right VAT treatment; match to purchase orders and goods received and sort out any differences
• Supplier statement reconciliations and query resolution
• Maintaining supplier master data under the business's approval controls
• Sales ledger: allocate customer receipts and keep customer accounts current
• Daily and monthly bank reconciliations, clearing any outstanding items
• Expense claims and company card reconciliations
• Month-end: accruals, prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations and journals
• VAT return working papers
• Reports, schedules and spreadsheets for the Finance Manager
• Year-end audit support
• Being the team's Business Central expert and first port of call for system questions
• Spotting and suggesting improvements to finance processes and controls
• Handling finance queries from colleagues, suppliers and customers

Assistant Accountant – What we are looking for

Essential

• Proven experience as an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant or in a similar finance role
• Comfortable across purchase ledger, sales ledger and bank reconciliations
• Sound grasp of double-entry bookkeeping, VAT and month-end routines
• Strong Excel skills
• Accurate, organised and able to hit deadlines
• Discreet and trustworthy with confidential information
• Proactive and adaptable, happy to support the wider team when priorities shift
• Able to work from a Central London office four days a week

Desirable

• AAT Level 3 or above (qualified or studying), or equivalent
• Experience of working in a hybrid finance team
• Experience in retail, design, luxury or another stock-holding business
• Committed to continuous improvement and keen to develop further within finance
• Hands-on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience
