Join Transforming Learning Group

Transforming Learning Group (TLG) is a growing group of businesses dedicated to supporting schools across England through technology, data, finance, compliance and operational services. Through our family of brands, we support over 5,000 schools and employ more than 500 colleagues, helping education providers focus on what matters most, improving outcomes for pupils.

As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a proactive and detail-focused Assistant Accountant / Credit Controller to join our Finance team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their finance career while taking ownership of credit control activities within a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

About the Role

This is a varied role combining day-to-day finance responsibilities with full responsibility for credit control activities across part of the Group.

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will play a key role in supporting financial processes, maintaining strong customer and supplier relationships, and ensuring outstanding debt is managed effectively. You'll work closely with colleagues across the business while contributing to the ongoing development of finance systems and processes.

This position offers excellent exposure across multiple areas of finance and would suit someone who enjoys balancing accuracy, organisation and relationship management.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Control

  • Managing customer accounts to ensure invoices are paid within agreed terms
  • Monitoring and reducing aged debt through proactive collection activities
  • Processing and allocating cash receipts accurately
  • Reconciling customer accounts and resolving payment queries
  • Producing regular aged debt and cash collection reports
  • Working closely with operational and commercial teams to resolve outstanding balances
  • Maintaining accurate customer records and collection notes

Finance Support

  • Supporting accounts payable activities, including supplier invoice processing and query resolution
  • Assisting with supplier payment runs and staff expenses processing
  • Supporting month-end processes, reconciliations and reporting activities
  • Assisting with budgeting, forecasting and audit requirements
  • Providing ad hoc finance support across the wider Transforming Learning Group
  • Contributing to finance system and process improvement initiatives

About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, proactive and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team. You'll be confident communicating with both customers and colleagues and have a strong eye for detail.

You will ideally have:

  • Part-qualified AAT, ACCA or CIMA status, with the ambition to continue studying
  • Previous experience in a credit control, accounts receivable or finance role
  • Experience working within a high-volume invoicing environment
  • Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
  • Good problem-solving and relationship-building skills
  • Experience with finance systems or ERP platforms, ideally including Access Dimensions or Xero

Experience of month-end processes, accruals, prepayments and management accounting principles would be advantageous.
