What they need
Our Market Regulation branch is looking for an inquisitive and self-driven Assistant Analyst or Analyst. We are particularly interested in applicants who enjoy working with data and using quantitative and qualitative analysis to solve complex regulatory and market problems.
We have two opportunities available: a 9-month fixed-term position in our Groceries team and a permanent role in our Dairy, Fuel and Payments team. These roles can be based in either Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington).
New Zealanders rely on competitive and well-functioning dairy, fuel retail payment and grocery markets every day. Join us to analyse data, test evidence, identify market trends, and contribute to regulatory decisions that promote better outcomes for consumers and businesses.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
You will work across a variety of projects within multi-disciplinary teams of lawyers, economists, analysts and regulatory specialists. You will gather and critically analyse information, identify key issues, draw well-reasoned conclusions, and contribute to the delivery of clear, evidence-based advice to decision makers.
A key part of this role involves working with quantitative information from regulated businesses and market participants. You will analyse market, operational and financial data, identify trends and insights, and help assess whether regulatory outcomes are being achieved.
The indicative salary range for these positions are: Assistant Analyst is $81,083 - $95,392, Analyst $94,025 - $110,618. Our 3.5% KiwiSaver employer contribution is additional to this. The successful candidate will be appointed at a starting salary which reflects their individual skills, experience, and internal relativities across the organisation.
He kōrero mōu | About you
You'll be a collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings a proactive, solutions-focused approach. You'll be able to think critically, communicate clearly, and build effective working relationships.
You'll also bring some of the following:
- strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
- experience analysing data and drawing insights
- the ability to critically evaluate evidence and reach sound conclusions
- experience in a policy, regulatory, analytical, economic, financial or operational environment
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- the capability to understand and interpret financial information, market data and legislation
We value diverse perspectives and recognise that high performance comes from a range of life and work experiences. This means you might still be a great fit if you don't meet all of the criteria above.
Relevant backgrounds may include economics, statistics, finance, accounting, engineering, data analytics, commerce, public policy, regulation, auditing or research.
For the Assistant Analyst role, we would consider someone with an internship in a related field, or at least six months' work experience post-qualification. For the Analyst role, we would expect applicants to have at least two years' experience in a related field.
As our organisation flexes and adapts to meet changing priorities and commitments, we are looking for people who are also comfortable with change, able to adapt, and can contribute positively to a one Commission view. Your ability to show your learning agility, open mindedness and curiosity will set you apart from the rest.
