What they need
About the role
The Assistant Assembly Manager / Assembly Manager oversees daily production activities on the motorcycle assembly lines. This role ensures that motorcycle assembly operations (engine installation, frame integration, electrical systems, torque checks, and pre-delivery testing) are executed safely, efficiently, and according to strict OEM quality specifications and delivery schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and directing daily motorcycle assembly line operations to meet target output volumes and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Monitor line pacing, tact time, and station balancing across main assembly stages (chassis, powertrain, electrical wiring, body panels, and final inspection).
- Lead daily shift briefing sessions (toolbox talks) to communicate daily output targets, safety guidelines, and quality alerts to assembly technicians.
- Enforce adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality standards for all assembly processes.
- Conduct line audits for critical control steps, such as fastener torque specifications, fluid fills (engine oil, brake fluid), and electrical testing.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance (QA) to investigate line defects, establish root causes using 8D/5-Why methodologies, and implement immediate corrective actions.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance team to ensure regular preventive maintenance (PM) for assembly line tools, overhead hoists, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and pneumatic torque wrenches.
- Respond promptly to line stoppages, equipment breakdowns, or component shortages to minimize production downtime.
- Identify bottlenecks on the assembly floor and propose workflow optimizations using Lean techniques (5S, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, Kanban).
- Support the introduction of new motorcycle models (NPI - New Product Introduction) by evaluating assembly line layouts, tooling requirements, and trial production runs.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Certifications in Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, or OSHA compliance are highly advantageous.
- 3–5 years of supervisory or assistant managerial experience in automotive manufacturing or assembly operations (prior experience in motorcycle/two-wheeler assembly or CKD plants is preferred).
- Hands-on familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems used in modern assembly lines.
- Strong knowledge of assembly processes, line balancing, torque control tools, and testing equipment (e.g., end-of-line dyno testing).
- Proficiency in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) software (e.g., SAP, local ERP systems).
- Excellent leadership, conflict resolution, and communication skills to lead multi-skilled production teams.
- Proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and English (written and spoken).
The position level will depend on the candidate's experience and qualifications.
