Assistant Café Manager

About the role

The position of Assistant Manager is to support the General Manager and Owner in the daily operation of our established café and restaurant. Leading a fantastic front-of-house team, maintaining excellent customer service and to help ensure the venue operates efficiently, consistently and profitably. This is a hands-on role, reporting to our General Manager, requiring active involvement in service, strong leadership and clear communication with both front-of-house and kitchen teams.

This role also requires an understanding of our business’ legacy. You will be required to actively maintain the character and essence of our long standing brand; ensuring the atmosphere, service and presentation reflect our venue’s history .

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily shifts, including opening and closing the venue.
• Coordinate staff duties, breaks and service priorities to maintain smooth operations.
• Work alongside the team during service, assisting with orders, food and beverage delivery, clearing and other duties as required.
• Maintain our brand .
• Support staff induction and training.
• Assist with rostering and respond to staffing changes within agreed authority.
• Communicate closely with the kitchen to manage service timing, menu availability and customer dietary requirements.
• Monitor presentation, cleanliness, food safety and workplace safety standards.
• Oversee POS procedures, cash handling and end-of-shift reconciliation.
• Assist with stock control, ordering, delivery checks and reducing waste.

About you

• Previous experience supervising or managing a café, restaurant or similar hospitality venue.
• Confident, approachable leadership and the ability to give clear direction.
• Strong customer service, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to remain organised and calm during busy service periods.
• Experience with POS systems, rostering and cash handling.
• Availability to work a roster that includes weekends and evenings.
• Relevant food safety and responsible service of alcohol qualifications.
