Assistant Category Manager

Macpac are looking for an Assistant Category Manager to join our Merchandise team and help shape the future of one of New Zealand and Australia's most iconic outdoor apparel brands. From technical outerwear and adventure-ready essentials to everyday outdoor gear, you'll help bring products to market that inspire customers to get outside and explore. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Assistant Category Manager, Buyer or Junior Category Manager ready to step closer to owning a category. You'll work alongside experienced leaders, influence key trading decisions and build the skills needed to progress into future Category Management opportunities.

What You’ll Be Doing…

• Analyse category performance to identify growth opportunities and influence category decision-making.
• Help shape category and range strategy through data-led insights, cross-functional planning, promotional analysis and continuous process improvement.
• Collaborate effectively across teams to deliver accurate, timely promotions and category initiatives, ensuring clear communication and issue resolution.
• Maintain strong governance through accurate administration, campaign sign-off, trade partner tracking and compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
• Build commercial and category capability through feedback, learning, industry awareness and contribution to a customer‑centric improvement culture.
• Work across a broad apparel portfolio, collaborating with teams across Product, Planning, Digital, Marketing, Retail Operations and Supply Chain to influence key commercial outcomes.

What You'll Bring…

• Commercial & Category Acumen - Strong understanding of category management principles, range planning, product lifecycle management and commercial decision-making.
• Data-Driven Decision Making - Demonstrated ability to analyse data, identify opportunities and translate insights into commercial outcomes.
• Thriving in a Fast-Paced Environment - Experience managing multiple priorities, deadlines and competing workstreams, with exceptional organisation and attention to detail.
• Stakeholder Influence & Collaboration - Confident stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence, engage and collaborate across cross-functional teams.
