Assistant Chef

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Assistant Chef to join our culinary team at Lemonbari Cafe. This is a full-time position based in Setiu, Terengganu, where you will play a vital role in supporting our kitchen operations and contributing to the exceptional dining experiences we provide to our guests. As an Assistant Chef, you will work alongside our Head Chef and kitchen team to prepare, cook and present high-quality dishes whilst maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. This position offers the opportunity to develop your culinary skills in a dynamic hospitality environment and to be part of a dedicated team committed to excellence in food preparation and service.

Key responsibilities

1. Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to established recipes and menu specifications
2. Assist in food preparation including chopping, marinating, seasoning and cooking ingredients
3. Maintain strict adherence to food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards at all times
4. Support the Head Chef in menu planning and special dietary requirement requests
5. Monitor stock levels and report shortages of kitchen ingredients and equipment to management
6. Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly maintained, cleaned and stored in accordance with company procedures
7. Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure efficient workflow and timely preparation of meals
8. Plate and present dishes to meet the company's presentation standards
9. Follow all health and safety regulations and company policies within the kitchen environment
10. Support the kitchen team during service times to ensure smooth operations

What we're looking for

1. Experience working in a professional kitchen environment, preferably in a hospitality setting
2. Culinary qualification or relevant formal training in food preparation and cooking
3. Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene practices and HACCP principles
4. Ability to work efficiently under pressure whilst maintaining quality standards
5. Excellent knife skills and proficiency with standard kitchen equipment
6. Good communication and teamwork abilities to work collaboratively with kitchen staff
7. Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high presentation standards
8. Physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods in a fast-paced environment
9. Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and public holidays as required
10. Knowledge of different cuisines and cooking techniques is advantageous
11. Willingness to learn and develop culinary skills further
