Highland Chocolatier

Chocolatier Assistant
Location: Grandtully (PH9 0PL) between Aberfeldy & Pitlochry, 30 minutes drive from Perth
A rare opportunity to join our small professional team producing award-winning world class gourmet chocolates in our production kitchen. Over several years of training you will develop the skills necessary to become an artisan chocolatier. As a production assistant you must be motivated by excellence in what you and the whole team are producing. You will take pride in listening carefully to meticulous instruction, repeatedly practicing with increasing speed, and being flexible to assist with all kitchen production, cleaning and packing tasks.
You will enjoy the role of an Assistant Chocolatier if you:

Love repetition (tens of thousands of chocolates each week to the same 30 recipes)

Get personal satisfaction from fine detailing (have a natural ability to spot the tiny imperfections on each chocolate and desire to turn out perfect work)

Love working quickly and efficiently (once trained and able to maintain the standard, you are excited to be able to work at a fast pace to meet deadlines)

Love helping other people in a small team (happy to work flexibly where needed, whether packing, making chocolates or cleaning, or having to suddenly change tasks to help with a late order)

Enjoy being methodical and logical (following a recipe or procedure accurately and consistently)

Love constantly learning and improving yourself and what you do (have the humility to never to assume that learning is finished)

Benefits:

Full-time, year-round work, with excellent pay (£13.50-15.50/hr)

Being surrounded by a kind and supportive team

Training according to a clear manual, to world class standards

Usual working hours 9 to 5.30 Monday to Friday

Various Discretionary Bonuses

Employee discount

Free on-site parking

Sick pay

Smart-casual dress

Requirements:

Long term commitment for NO LESS THAN 3 years.

Live within daily travelling distance of PH9 0PL

Legal right to work in the UK for at least 3 more years. No visa sponsorship.

Personal qualities are more important than experience as full training will be given. Therefore you must:

Have an organised mind which thrives on fine detailed work, executed quickly under deadlines while remaining calm and kind

Have a continuous attitude of learning

Have a sharp eye for detail and be content with repetitive tasks in a production kitchen

Follow directions and recipes precisely

Have a passion for gourmet food and appreciate the difference between standard and gourmet chocolate

Value genuine friendships and proactively contribute to a kind, positive team culture

Communicate assertively with the Master Chocolatier and team mates

Help others closely as well as work independently with responsibility

Be willing to work to the standards required by the Highland Chocolatier brand

**Why 3 years?**You need to be confident to make this level of commitment because of the investment we are going to make in your training. It takes at least 3 years to learn the many detailed tasks to the high level of skill and speed required. This is not a job for just a season or one year.
Will the work satisfy my creativity? This is a production kitchen with volume and repetition. You will not be experimenting and creating new recipes, which is the remit of the Master Chocolatier after many more years experience. Every week you will be working in the small production team making thousands of chocolates to an exacting world class standard using proven recipes, methods and carefully chosen ingredients.
If you are interested and determined enough to read this far, then include a covering letter telling us about yourself and why you want to work with us. You are much more likely to be considered for an interview.
