What they need
Mini Athletics Assistant Coach – Sundays
Location: Impington, Cambridge
Hours: Sundays, 9:00am–11:15am
Additional hours: Opportunities may be available at our other Cambridge venues
Progression: Opportunity to train as a Lead Coach, potentially by the New Year Mini Athletics Cambridge & Saffron Walden is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable Assistant Coach to join our Sunday morning team in Impington.
We work with children from walking age through to their 8th birthday, using running, jumping and throwing alongside storytelling, imagination and plenty of interaction to create sessions children genuinely want to be part of.
This role would suit someone who genuinely enjoys being around children and isn't afraid to get involved. You do not need to arrive as an experienced sports coach. We can teach you how to deliver Mini Athletics. What we can't teach quite as easily is enthusiasm, warmth and the ability to make children feel comfortable, excited and included.
What you'll be doing As an Assistant Coach, you will:
Help set up and pack away equipment before and after sessions
Support the Lead Coach with games, activities and demonstrations Encourage children to get involved and give things a go
Help children understand activities where they need extra support Celebrate effort, progress and achievement
Adapt your approach to different personalities, confidence levels and abilities
Help create a fun, positive and safe environment
Build relationships with our regular Mini Athletes and their families
Be prepared to be energetic, enthusiastic and occasionally a little bit silly when the session calls for it!
You won't simply be standing on the side putting cones out.
Our assistants are an important part of the session and we want someone who wants to interact with the children, learn their names and become someone they look forward to seeing each week.
We'd love to hear from you if you are:
Genuinely enthusiastic about working with children
Friendly, confident and approachable
Reliable and punctual
Happy to get involved rather than watch from the sidelines
Comfortable working as part of a coaching team
Willing to learn and take feedback
Interested in physical activity, education or child development
Able to commit consistently to Sunday mornings
Previous experience working with children, coaching or teaching is useful but not essential.
The right personality and attitude are more important to us than arriving with a long list of qualifications.
Progression For the right person, this does not have to remain an Assistant Coach role. There will be opportunities to work additional sessions at our other venues and we would be happy to develop someone who shows the right qualities into a Mini Athletics Lead Coach, with the possibility of being trained up for this by the New Year.
Training and support will be provided.
Because the role involves working directly with children, appropriate safeguarding and recruitment checks will be required.
If you enjoy making children laugh, encouraging them when something is difficult and seeing their confidence grow from week to week, we'd really like to hear from you.
Pay: £10.00-£20.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Childcare
- Free parking
- On-site parking
