About All Faiths Food Bank

All Faiths Food Bank is a proud member of the Feeding America network, working every day to end hunger across Sarasota, DeSoto, and Newtown. Behind every meal we distribute is a team of dedicated people, and our finance department is the engine that keeps that mission running. We're looking for an Assistant Controller who wants their careful, detail-driven work to add up to something bigger.

What You'll Do

• Own the monthly close process end to end, and deliver it on a timely, predictable schedule
• Keep the general ledger accurate and complete, from journal entries to account reconciliations and supporting schedules
• Reconcile sub-ledgers from across the organization into one accurate, trustworthy general ledger
• Deliver timely, accurate financial statements and management reports straight to the CFO and CEO
• Safeguard fund accounting accuracy across unrestricted, temporarily restricted, and permanently restricted net assets
• Oversee payroll accounting entry
• Keep cash flowing where it needs to go, with daily reporting on bank activity
• Perform bank and investment account reconciliations
• Administer our credit card and spend platform, troubleshooting card issues for cardholders along the way
• Champion our Financial and Accounting Policies and Procedures Manual
• Track restricted grants and government contracts, such as TEFAP, USDA, and state and local funding, at the fund and program level
• Help prepare the financial reports our funders, government partners, and Feeding America count on
• Partner with the CFO and department leaders on annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and budget-to-actual monitoring

What You'll Bring

• A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in an accounting role
• A valid Florida driver's license
• Reliable transportation, proof of valid auto insurance, a clean driving record, and the ability to meet insurance underwriting requirements to operate fleet or personal vehicles for business

Bonus Points For

• Nonprofit accounting experience
• Experience with restricted fund accounting, grant and government contract compliance, and budgeting
• Experience in a food bank or human services nonprofit setting

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Strong working knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with FASB ASC 958 nonprofit accounting standards
• Advanced proficiency with accounting software and systems, such as Sage or QuickBooks
• Advanced Excel skills
• Strong organizational and written communication skills
• A high degree of integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial and donor information
• The ability to manage and prioritize competing deadlines, including monthly close and grant reporting

Good to Know

This is an office-based, on-site role in a climate-controlled environment, with occasional travel between our Sarasota, DeSoto, and Newtown locations. As a disaster relief organization, all AFFB staff may be called upon to support disaster preparedness and response activities during emergencies.
