Assistant Controller

Position Summary

We are seeking an Assistant Controller to join our operation. The mine provides opportunities in both mechanized and conventional hard rock mining. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a qualified accounting professional to work on a variety of operational and financial projects, take ownership of their career, and contribute meaningfully as part of a small, high-performing team in a dynamic mining environment.

The Assistant Controller will be responsible for driving month-end close activities, supporting site-level accounting operations, managing site-level audit requests and procedures, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and managing accounting team resources. The role will sit primarily in the Coeur d’Alene office but requires occasional travel to various mine sites.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

• Oversee and maintain site accounting systems and processes, including support of any system upgrades / implementations
• Support internal control process in alignment with corporate standards
• Maintain compliance with GAAP/IFRS and internal accounting policies and procedures
• Drive month-end close process, including review of journal entries and account reconciliations
• Assist in preparation of interim, monthly, and annual financial statements
• Perform periodic variance analyses and gather necessary operations responses
• Ensure proper transaction coding and documentation review to maintain financial accuracy
• Direct payroll operations and accounts payable functions to ensure proper operations

Treasury Operations

• Manage weekly cost forecasting process
• Submit wire templates to banking system and ensure proper recording of ACH details for vendors
• Submit electronic payments to the banking system for subsequent approval
• Manage vendor relationship activities

Operational & Cost Accounting

• Support cost accounting activities related to mining operations
• Assist in managing cost accounting systems and reporting processes Assist in capital project accounting in conjunction with Project Accountant, ensuring proper control operations
• Assist in developing financial plans / metrics to support operational decision-making

Budget & Financial Planning

• Develop historical spend models in support of the annual budget process
• Assist in developing short- and long-term forecasts of operations
• Assist in developing Life-of-Mine (LOM) financial models

Qualifications:

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Experience

• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within mining, manufacturing, or other heavy industry
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and/or IFRS accounting standards
• Experience with payroll and accounts payable functions [required]
• Experience with operational accounting and budgeting [preferred]

Technical Skills & Competencies

• Experience with accounting and ERP systems such as Microsoft Great Plains, SAP, and SAGE
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to work cross-functionally with operations teams
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy
