Assistant Controller

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our team in Naples, Florida. This is a hands-on accounting leadership position responsible for supporting the company's financial operations, managing the month-end close process, overseeing payroll, and strengthening job costing and project financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment, and able to work effectively with both accounting and operations teams. This position offers significant visibility within the organization and an opportunity to grow into a Controller-level role.

Duties

• Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of general ledger activity and financial reporting
• Supervise and review payroll processing, including coordination with Paychex or a similar payroll provider
• Manage and improve job costing and project-based financial reporting
• Monitor project costs, budgets, and financial performance and identify significant variances
• Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Assist with external audits and coordinate with outside CPAs and tax advisors
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial policies
• Partner with operations and management to improve financial visibility and profitability reporting by project/job
• Assist with AIA billing and construction-related accounting
• Provide limited HR support, including employee onboarding and coordination of payroll and benefits

Qualifications

Required

• Construction accounting experience
• Experience with AIA billing
• Proficiency with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (CRE) or Sage Intacct
• Experience with Paychex or a comparable payroll platform
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience
• Previous experience as a Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or similar position
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
• Demonstrated experience managing or playing a significant role in the monthly close process
• Experience with job costing or project accounting
• Strong Excel skills and proficiency with accounting/ERP systems
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

• Experience supporting basic HR and benefits administration

Location Requirements

• Position is based in Naples, Florida
• Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Naples
• No relocation assistance is available

Pay: $81,600.00 - $98,400.00 per year
