Assistant Controller, Property Accounting

Our client is a family office. They seek an Assistant Controller, Property Accounting to join their Manhattan, NY office.

Responsibilities

• Compile month-end workpapers and analyze general ledger activity, depreciation, amortization, reserves, loan activity, and equity balances
• Consolidate third-party property management financials for lender, investor, and internal reporting
• Generate lender and investor compliance reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
• Coordinate annual budgeting processes across managed real estate properties
• Administer real estate property tax payments, filings, and related compliance activities
• Monitor lease escalations, tenant recoveries, CAM reconciliations, and financial reporting for commercial and storage assets
• Support audit and tax engagements by preparing workpapers and coordinating with external CPA firms
• Review tax returns, K-1s, and state filing requirements, including PTET, RPIE, and tax certiorari submissions
• Reconcile development project requisitions with asset management and development teams
• Analyze financial data and prepare ad hoc reports to support management and investment decision-making

Requirements

• 5-10 years of real estate accounting or bookkeeping experience
• Private/combo experience preferred
• Residential real estate accounting experience is preferred
• Project accounting experience preferred
• Cash basis accounting experience required
• Yardi or MRI required
