What they need

The role

Actiform is looking for an Assistant Design Coordinator to join our Design Team in Mirfield.

This role would particularly suit someone with an architectural or technical construction background who is ready to become more involved in the coordination and wider delivery of construction projects.

Working with the Head of Design and other members of the Design Team, you will help coordinate architectural, structural and MEP information, monitor design actions and outstanding information, identify technical interfaces and support the resolution of design issues across our projects.

You will work closely with consultants, subcontractors, project teams, manufacturing and site teams to help ensure that design information is coordinated, buildable and available when it is needed.

A working knowledge of Revit and the ability to produce or amend technical drawings would be useful, particularly where this helps resolve an issue or progress a project, but this is not primarily a drawing-production role.

We are looking for someone who is organised, technically aware, comfortable communicating with different disciplines and keen to take increasing responsibility within the design process.

About Actiform

Actiform specialises in the design, manufacture and delivery of off-site engineered buildings.

Our projects span a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, defence, nuclear, infrastructure, industrial and site accommodation.

Our Design Team works across the full project lifecycle and interfaces directly with consultants, clients, manufacturing, project management and site teams.

Because we manufacture the buildings we design, the Design Team has a particularly close relationship with buildability, technical coordination and the practical consequences of design decisions.

What you'll be doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the coordination of architectural, structural and MEP design information.
  • Reviewing drawings, models, specifications and technical information from consultants and subcontractors.
  • Identifying missing, conflicting or incomplete information and helping drive issues through to resolution.
  • Raising and managing RFIs and design queries.
  • Maintaining design trackers and monitoring outstanding actions, approvals and information.
  • Liaising with architects, engineers, MEP consultants, specialist subcontractors and internal project teams.
  • Supporting and attending design meetings.
  • Taking ownership of agreed design actions and following them through to completion.
  • Helping coordinate interfaces between different design disciplines and specialist packages.
  • Supporting the development and monitoring of design programmes and information requirements.
  • Reviewing information for coordination, buildability and general technical suitability.
  • Supporting the transition of design information into manufacture.
  • Working with manufacturing and site teams to help resolve design queries.
  • Reviewing manufacturing information against the coordinated project design.
  • Producing or amending drawings and model information where required to support project delivery.
  • Supporting tender and pre-construction activities where required.
  • Visiting project sites and attending external meetings where appropriate.
  • Contributing to the continued development of Actiform's design processes and standards.

What we're looking for

We are looking for someone with a good technical understanding of construction who is ready to take on greater responsibility for design coordination.

You may currently be working as an:

  • Architectural Technologist;
  • Architectural Technician;
  • Assistant Design Coordinator;
  • BIM / Design Technician; or
  • similar construction design role.

You should have:

  • Experience working with technical construction information.
  • A good understanding of how architectural, structural and MEP information interfaces.
  • The ability to read and interrogate drawings and specifications from different disciplines.
  • A reasonable understanding of UK construction methods and Building Regulations.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple design actions and priorities.
  • Good communication skills and confidence dealing with consultants and internal stakeholders.
  • The ability to identify when information is missing, inconsistent or requires clarification.
  • A proactive approach to resolving design issues.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • An interest in becoming more involved in the wider coordination and delivery of projects.

Desirable experience

Experience in the following would be useful but is not essential:

  • Autodesk Revit.
  • BIM coordination.
  • Modular or off-site construction.
  • Design-and-build or main contractor environments.
  • Manufacturing or fabrication drawings.
  • Autodesk Construction Cloud or other common data environments.
  • Navisworks or similar coordination software.
  • RIBA Stage 3 / Stage 4 technical design.
  • Healthcare, defence, nuclear or other technically demanding sectors.
  • Design programmes, information schedules, RFIs and design trackers.

We are more interested in finding someone with the right technical understanding, attitude and coordination potential than somebody who already has experience in every area above.

Development

There is good scope for the role to develop as your experience and confidence grow, with increasing ownership of design packages, coordination activities and project responsibilities.

Salary

£34,000–£38,000 per year, depending on experience.

Applying

Please apply with your CV.

Examples of technical or coordinated project work would also be welcomed where available.
