Assistant Engineering Manager

About the role

Take overall ownership of daily engineering, maintenance, and technical-support activities across the facility. Plan, execute, and continuously improve preventive and corrective maintenance for all manufacturing and packaging equipments. Maintain and optimize performance of core processing and packaging equipment, including blending, filling, labelling, cartoning, check-weighing, metal detection, conveyors, and automated systems. Oversee factory utilities and facility services, including HVAC, compressed air, electrical systems, water systems, and general building maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Take overall ownership of daily engineering, maintenance, and technical-support activities across the facility.
• Plan, execute, and continuously improve preventive and corrective maintenance for all manufacturing and packaging equipments.
• Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns promptly, implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA), and minimize production downtime.
• Maintain and optimize performance of core processing and packaging equipment, including blending, filling, labelling, cartoning, check-weighing, metal detection, conveyors, and automated systems.
• Oversee factory utilities and facility services, including HVAC, compressed air, electrical systems, water systems, and general building maintenance.
• Supervise, coach, and develop the engineering team and external contractors, ensuring high work quality.
• Manage spare-parts inventory, establish critical safety stock levels, and control engineering and maintenance budgets effectively.
• Coordinate contractors, machine vendors, and service providers, managing quotation comparisons, work schedules, site safety permits, and job sign-offs.
• Maintain complete engineering documentation, including maintenance logs, SOPs, work instructions, spare-parts lists, and technical drawings.
• Drive compliance with applicable GMP, quality, hygiene, food-safety, and EHS requirements across all engineering tasks.

About you

• Higher Diploma, Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Automation, Building Services or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 5 years' experience in engineering, maintenance or technical services within a manufacturing environment.
• Prior experience supervising technicians, contractors or maintenance work is required.
• Strong hands-on troubleshooting knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, pneumatic systems, motors, drives, sensors, PLC-controlled equipment and production or packaging machinery.
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance, spare-parts control, contractor management and root-cause analysis.
• Able to work independently, organise priorities and remain effective when handling urgent equipment issues.
• Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; Cantonese is preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
