What they need

Who We Are

Founded in 1993, Tri Scapes is a leading commercial landscape contractor headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia. As one of the top firms in the Atlanta area, we’ve expanded into Savannah and Augusta and continue to grow across the Southeast. With over 300 employees, we take pride in delivering reliable service, high-quality work, and building strong communities.

We’re a fast-growing team driven by one mission: cultivating the best in others. From large-scale municipal contracts to detailed landscape construction, we do things the right way. We invest in our people, hold a high standard, and create real opportunities for growth. After 30 years in business, we know that when you invest in the right people, you build something that lasts.

Position Overview

We are seeking an ambitious, detail-oriented Assistant Estimator to join our Estimating team. This role serves as a crucial support pillar within this department, offering hands-on training and mentorship from experienced estimators.

As an Assistant Estimator, you will assist with plan measurements, material takeoffs, and document management across commercial landscape projects (including hardscape, planting, maintenance & irrigation). If you possess strong mathematical aptitude, natural spatial awareness, and a drive to build a career in landscape construction, this position provides a structured foundation for growth.

Core Responsibilities

  • Guided Quantity Takeoffs: Learn and execute accurate digital plan measurements (quantities, square footages, linear runs, and material counts) for planting, hardscape, irrigation, and site work under the supervision of senior estimators.
  • Plan & Specification Review: Assist in reviewing construction drawings, site details, specification manuals and project addenda to ensure all scope items are accounted for in bid preparations.
  • Vendor & Material Inquiries: Contact local nurseries, material suppliers, and specialty subcontractors to request, track, and log competitive pricing quotes.
  • Bid File Organization: Maintain structured digital job files, keeping drawing sets, quote sheets, unit costs, and project correspondence organized and up to date.
  • Pre-Bid Assistance: Support the team during pre-bid preparation by cross-referencing plan revisions, organizing site visit notes, and double-checking calculation spreadsheets.
  • Department Collaboration: Participate in internal project hand-off meetings to assist in transitioning won projects smoothly to the field construction team.

Key Traits & Qualifications

Fundamental Traits (What We Look For):

  • Mathematical Aptitude: Strong comfort level with basic geometry, unit conversions, percentages, and numerical accuracy.
  • Spatial Literacy: Ability to visualize 2D construction drawings and/or satellite imagery as physical 3D site areas.
  • Methodical & Detail-Driven: A high degree of care when reviewing numbers, specifications, and project documents.
  • Resourceful Communicator: Confident phone and email communication skills when reaching out to vendors, suppliers, and team members.
  • Trainability & Curiosity: Eagerness to learn landscape construction techniques, material properties, and estimating software systems.

Technical Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or coursework in Construction Technology, Landscape Design, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency with basic Microsoft Excel (formulas, organizing tables) and general computer literacy; previous experience with a takeoff software is a plus.
  • Industry Knowledge: Basic familiarity with construction drawings or landscape terminology is preferred, but willing to train candidates with strong transferable skills.

What We Offer

  • Health, dental, and vision benefits
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Opportunities for growth within a respected and expanding organization
