This is a hands-on leadership position that combines direct resident care with assisting management in overseeing daily facility operations. The Assistant Floor Manager will work alongside direct care staff to ensure residents receive high-quality care, daily responsibilities are completed, and the home operates efficiently.
We are looking for someone who leads by example, takes initiative, demonstrates strong leadership skills, and is comfortable providing direction and accountability to other employees.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Care & Daily Operations
- Provide hands-on assistance with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, transfers, and mobility.
- Administer medications and complete required documentation in accordance with training, policies, and applicable regulations.
- Ensure resident care plans, daily routines, and individual needs are being followed.
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and promptly communicate concerns to management.
- Assist with meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, and other daily household responsibilities as needed.
- Ensure resident safety, comfort, dignity, and well-being at all times.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
- Provide guidance, direction, and support to direct care employees during assigned shifts.
- Lead by example by actively participating in resident care and daily responsibilities.
- Ensure employees are completing assigned duties and following established policies and procedures.
- Assist with training and mentoring new employees.
- Address minor concerns or performance issues as they arise and communicate ongoing concerns to the House Manager.
- Encourage teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and effective communication.
- Help maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Management Support
- Assist the House Manager with overseeing daily operations and ensuring the facility runs smoothly.
- Monitor completion of daily tasks, resident care documentation, and medication records.
- Identify and communicate staffing, resident care, or operational concerns to management.
- Assist with maintaining facility cleanliness, organization, and readiness for inspections.
- Help ensure compliance with company policies and Michigan Adult Foster Care regulations.
- Communicate important updates and concerns to the House Manager and other management personnel.
- Assume additional assigned leadership responsibilities during shifts when the House Manager is unavailable, within established authority and training.
Schedule Requirements
- 24 hours weekly, varies between 8 hour and 12 hour shifts
- Shift time range between 7p - 7a
- Participate in Manager On Call rotation
Qualifications
- Previous experience in direct care, assisted living, adult foster care, or a similar healthcare setting required.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience caring for elderly individuals and residents with dementia preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to provide direction to employees while maintaining professionalism and respect.
- Must be dependable, self-motivated, and comfortable taking initiative.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize resident care needs in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be willing to work directly on the floor and assist with all aspects of resident care.
- Must meet applicable Michigan Adult Foster Care employment and training requirements.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a strong team player who understands that leadership means working alongside employees, not simply delegating responsibilities.
We are looking for someone who:
- Leads by example and maintains a strong work ethic.
- Can confidently address concerns and provide constructive feedback.
- Holds themselves and others accountable.
- Takes initiative without needing constant direction.
- Communicates effectively with staff and management.
