Assistant General ManagerTabernacle Steakhouse — Midtown Manhattan, NYC

Full-Time | On-Site | Competitive Salary + Benefits

Tabernacle Steakhouse is a premier kosher dining destination in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, known for exceptional hospitality, dry-aged steaks and Wagyu, elevated sushi, creative cuisine, premium beverages, and memorable private dining experiences.

Since opening in 2021, Tabernacle has built a reputation for combining sophisticated dining with warm, personal hospitality. We are looking for an experienced, energetic, and highly motivated Assistant General Manager to join our leadership team and help take the restaurant to the next level.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands that great hospitality starts on the floor. The ideal candidate is confident leading a team, passionate about service, highly organized, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-volume upscale restaurant environment.

The Role

The Assistant General Manager will work closely with the General Manager and senior leadership team to oversee the day-to-day operation of the restaurant, maintain exceptional service standards, develop and lead the front-of-house team, and ensure that every guest receives the Tabernacle experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead by example, be highly visible on the floor, anticipate operational needs, solve problems quickly, and create a culture where both guests and employees feel valued.

Key ResponsibilitiesRestaurant Operations

  • Assist the General Manager in overseeing daily restaurant operations and service execution.
  • Serve as a key leader on the floor during lunch, dinner, peak periods, and special events.
  • Maintain and continuously improve Tabernacle's service standards, operating procedures, and guest experience.
  • Ensure smooth communication between the dining room, kitchen, bar, management, and support teams.
  • Take an active role in opening and closing procedures and daily operational readiness.
  • Monitor restaurant cleanliness, organization, presentation, and overall condition.
  • Help identify operational inefficiencies and implement practical solutions.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead by example and establish a culture of professionalism, accountability, and hospitality.
  • Train, coach, and develop servers, captains, hosts, bartenders, and support staff.
  • Assist with onboarding and implementation of training programs and SOPs.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate daily priorities and service expectations.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and hold team members accountable to established standards.
  • Help build a strong, motivated, and service-driven team.
  • Work closely with department leaders to ensure consistent execution across the restaurant.

Guest Experience

  • Personally engage with guests and ensure an exceptional dining experience.
  • Anticipate guest needs and proactively address service issues.
  • Handle guest concerns and service recovery with professionalism, discretion, and urgency.
  • Develop relationships with regular guests, corporate clients, and VIPs.
  • Ensure that Tabernacle's hospitality is consistently warm, knowledgeable, attentive, and polished.

Food, Beverage & Hospitality

  • Maintain strong knowledge of Tabernacle's menu, premium steaks and Wagyu program, sushi offerings, cocktails, wine program, and overall culinary experience.
  • Ensure staff are properly trained to confidently explain menu items, ingredients, preparation, and recommendations.
  • Work closely with the culinary team to maintain seamless communication between the kitchen and dining room.
  • Help maintain beverage, food, and service standards while supporting cost-control initiatives.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of upscale dining and the expectations of a luxury clientele.

Events & Private Dining

  • Support the execution of corporate dinners, private events, celebrations, and other special experiences.
  • Coordinate closely with the events and operations teams to ensure flawless execution.
  • Assist with large-party planning, staffing, service flow, and guest communication.
  • Help ensure that private events meet the same high standards as regular restaurant service.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist management with labor management, scheduling, inventory, ordering, and operational controls.
  • Monitor staffing levels and adjust accordingly based on business volume.
  • Help control food, beverage, and labor costs while maintaining quality.
  • Assist with daily reporting, cash handling, and other administrative responsibilities.
  • Help management identify opportunities to increase sales and improve profitability.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of management experience in upscale, fine-dining, or high-volume hospitality.
  • Strong understanding of front-of-house restaurant operations.
  • Exceptional leadership and people-management skills.
  • A genuine passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-oriented under pressure.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both culinary and hospitality teams.
  • Professional appearance and excellent personal presentation.
  • Strong knowledge of food, beverage, wine, and fine-dining service.
  • A hands-on management style — willing to jump in wherever needed.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and high-volume periods.
  • A desire to grow with a restaurant that is continually evolving.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who doesn't simply manage the restaurant — they lead it.

The ideal candidate is visible on the floor, knows their team, recognizes returning guests, notices the details others miss, and understands that luxury hospitality is created through hundreds of small interactions executed correctly.

You should be comfortable making decisions, taking ownership, holding yourself and others accountable, and stepping into any area of the operation when necessary.

Experience in a high-end steakhouse, luxury hotel, fine-dining restaurant, or comparable hospitality environment is strongly preferred.

Why Tabernacle?

Tabernacle offers the opportunity to join a growing hospitality organization with an ambitious vision for elevated kosher dining in New York City.

Our restaurant combines premium dry-aged beef and Wagyu, sophisticated sushi, creative cuisine, an extensive beverage program, private dining, and a refined yet welcoming atmosphere.
