What they need
About the Role
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) supports the General Manager in the daily operation of The Wesley while being actively developed for future advancement into the General Manager role. This is a hands-on, growth-oriented position for someone who wants to build a long-term career in boutique hotel leadership.
The AGM works closely with the General Manager to learn every aspect of running the property, with the intention of being groomed over time to take on full General Manager responsibilities as the company grows. The role begins part-time, with hours and scope expected to expand as the candidate demonstrates readiness. Salary is negotiable based on experience.
Reporting & Development
The AGM reports directly to the General Manager, with increasing exposure to ownership and decision-making as their scope grows.
- Shadow and eventually contribute to the GM Weekly Report covering occupancy, revenue, guest experience, staff, and operations
- Regular check-ins with the General Manager to review performance, priorities, and development progress
- Major operational, financial, or HR decisions remain with the General Manager and ownership during this stage, with the AGM increasingly involved as they are ready
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Support daily operations across Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and any F&B functions
- Learn and help maintain documented SOPs
- Be physically present at the property during scheduled working hours
- Cover front desk shifts when staffing is unavailable
- Help identify inefficiencies and support process improvements
Financial Management
- Assist with cost tracking including payroll, supplies, and vendor contracts
- Learn to monitor and report on revenue, occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, and operating margins
- Support financial decisions that align with ownership goals and approved budget targets
Sales & Marketing
- Support pricing strategy, channel optimization, and demand management under GM guidance
- Assist with marketing initiatives that support occupancy and brand positioning
Human Resources & Leadership
- Support recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating staff across departments
- Help maintain correct staffing levels and build redundancy across the team
- Develop leadership skills by supporting department leads and supervisors
Guest Relations & Service Recovery
- Help set and enforce service standards across all guest touchpoints
- Support guest recovery situations, de-escalate complaints, and follow up to close the loop
- Support incident reporting and documentation
Technology & Systems
- Learn and help manage the hotel's technology stack: Mews PMS, Akia, Quo, WhatsApp, Notion, and smart lock systems
- Support staff training on relevant tools
Asset & Property Management
- Help ensure property safety, cleanliness, and physical standards are met at all times
- Support oversight of maintenance, repairs, and vendor relationships
Compliance & Risk
- Support compliance with company policies, health and safety regulations, and legal requirements
- Help maintain proper documentation and reporting
Qualifications
Required
- Interest in and commitment to growing into a General Manager role over time
- Some experience in hotel or hospitality operations preferred
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to take initiative
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats in a smaller, boutique hotel environment
- Strong communication skills with guests, staff, and leadership
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed
Preferred
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience
- Experience with hotel PMS platforms; Mews experience a plus
- Familiarity with Page, AZ or similar national park gateway markets
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Work Environment
The Wesley is a boutique hotel in a national park gateway town, not a corporate flag property with layers of management or a large support staff. The AGM will have real exposure to how the property is run, with meaningful opportunity to grow into ownership of that operation over time.
This is not a 9-to-5 job. Boutique hospitality is a way of working, not a shift. Candidates who thrive here want accountability and are motivated by the opportunity to grow into a leadership role.
Page, AZ is remote. Housing options are limited and the lifestyle is tied to the outdoors, the canyon, and the lake. Candidates are strongly encouraged to research Page, AZ and housing availability before applying.
