What they need
Assistant Leisure Manager
Parklands Hotel & Country Club | Newton Mearns, Glasgow
Salary: £28,000 per year | 40 hours per week
Ready to take the next step in your leisure career?
Are you an experienced Leisure Supervisor ready to move into management? Do you have the knowledge, confidence and enthusiasm to help lead a busy leisure operation while delivering an outstanding experience for members and guests?
Parklands Hotel & Country Club is looking for a motivated, hands-on Assistant Leisure Manager to join our team in Newton Mearns.
This is an ideal opportunity for a Leisure Supervisor or Senior Leisure Attendant who is ready to take the next step, develop their management skills and take on greater responsibility within an established hotel and country club.
We are looking for someone who leads by example, takes pride in high standards and understands that excellent leisure management is about much more than keeping facilities running. It is about people, safety, teamwork and creating an environment that members are proud to be part of.
If you are ready to move beyond supervising shifts and start building your management career, we would love to hear from you.
About Parklands Hotel & Country Club
Parklands is an established, family-run hotel and country club in Newton Mearns, serving a large membership base alongside hotel guests, restaurant customers and function guests.
Our leisure facilities include:
- Swimming pool and hydrotherapy pool.
- Swedish sauna and bio sauna.
- Aroma steam room.
- Heated stone loungers and experience shower.
- Fully equipped gym featuring professional fitness equipment.
- Sports hall hosting a variety of activities.
- Changing rooms and associated leisure facilities.
Our members expect a clean, safe, welcoming and professionally managed environment. As Assistant Leisure Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining these standards and ensuring our facilities and team operate effectively every day.
The Role
Reporting to the Leisure Club Manager and Duty Manager, you will support the day-to-day management of the leisure department, helping to oversee staff, facilities, health and safety procedures and the overall member experience.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is comfortable taking responsibility, making decisions and supporting the team on the floor rather than remaining behind a desk.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leisure Operations and Member Experience
- Supporting the daily operation of the gym, swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, spa facilities and sports hall.
- Ensuring facilities are clean, safe, tidy and presented to a consistently high standard.
- Maintaining a visible presence throughout the department and delivering excellent customer service.
- Handling member enquiries, feedback and complaints professionally.
- Monitoring the condition of leisure equipment and ensuring faults are reported and followed up.
- Supporting the smooth opening, closing and daily running of the leisure facilities.
Team Leadership and Staff Development
- Supervising and supporting leisure team members during daily operations.
- Assisting with staff rotas, shift planning, handovers and task allocation.
- Helping train, develop and motivate colleagues.
- Ensuring staff follow company procedures and maintain expected service standards.
- Addressing performance or operational issues appropriately and escalating matters when necessary.
- Supporting the Leisure Club Manager and Duty Manager with the effective running of the department.
Pool Plant, Health and Safety
- Carrying out and overseeing appropriate pool water testing and recording procedures.
- Monitoring pool plant operations and helping ensure equipment operates correctly.
- Maintaining accurate records and completing relevant operational checks.
- Supporting compliance with pool safety, water hygiene and health and safety procedures.
- Ensuring cleaning schedules, inspections and opening and closing checks are completed.
- Reporting defects, maintenance requirements and safety concerns promptly.
- Supporting emergency procedures and ensuring established safety standards are followed.
Standards and Continuous Improvement
- Maintaining high standards throughout the gym, poolside, spa areas, changing rooms and sports hall.
- Ensuring equipment and facilities are ready for members and guests.
- Monitoring departmental supplies and helping control operating costs.
- Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, presentation and member satisfaction.
- Working closely with reception, housekeeping, maintenance and the wider hotel team.
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must have:
- A current, recognised pool plant qualification. This is essential.
- Previous experience in a leisure, health club, gym or swimming pool environment.
- Experience supervising colleagues or demonstrating the ability to lead a team.
- A sound understanding of pool operations, water testing and health and safety procedures.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks.
- A proactive, practical approach and the confidence to take responsibility.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends, in line with the operational rota.
A current pool lifeguard qualification and first aid certification would be advantageous.
Who Would Suit This Role?
We are particularly interested in hearing from an experienced Leisure Supervisor who is ready to take that next step.
Perhaps you are already supervising shifts, supporting your manager, dealing with member issues and helping maintain operational standards. You may be ready for greater responsibility but have not yet had the opportunity to demonstrate your management potential.
At Parklands, we recognise that the right person does not necessarily need years of experience with a management title. We are looking for someone with the practical knowledge, leadership qualities and ambition to grow into the role.
You should be confident, approachable, organised and willing to get involved wherever needed. Above all, you should care about your team, your facilities and the experience we deliver to our members.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary: £28,000 per annum.
- Contracted hours: 40 hours per week.
- Opportunity to progress from a supervisory position into leisure management.
- Hands-on experience across a varied hotel and country club operation.
- The opportunity to develop your leadership and operational management skills.
- Staff meals while on duty, subject to company policy.
- Access to Parklands facilities, subject to company policy.
- Staff, family and friend discounts, subject to applicable terms.
- Workplace pension in line with company policy.
Join the Parklands Team
This is an opportunity to become an important part of the management team at a busy, established leisure and hospitality business.
We need someone who takes ownership, leads by example and understands that high standards are achieved through consistency, communication and teamwork.
If you have your pool plant qualification, experience in leisure operations and the ambition to progress into management, apply today and take the next step in your career with Parklands Hotel & Country Club.
