Woodford Lumber & Home is looking for an Assistant Manager to join its team in Clear Lake, Iowa. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in lumber, building materials, construction, or a related industry who enjoys working directly with customers and wants to take the next step in their career.

This is more than a traditional management role. You’ll be involved in sales, estimating, customer projects, product selection, inventory, purchasing, and day-to-day operations while working alongside an experienced team that takes pride in helping customers bring their projects to life.

What You'll Do

• Work directly with contractors, homeowners, and other customers to understand their needs, develop estimates, prepare material take-offs, and provide accurate quotes
• Help oversee daily operations, support employees, and step into a leadership role when the Manager is unavailable
• Assist with product selection, purchasing, inventory management, order fulfillment, pricing, and maintaining appropriate margins
• Build strong relationships with customers, vendors, and team members while resolving issues and ensuring an exceptional customer experience

What You'll Bring

• Experience in lumber, building materials, construction, or a related industry, along with a solid understanding of construction products and processes
• Ability to read and understand plans/blueprints, develop material take-offs, and perform estimating and quoting
• Strong communication, listening, relationship-building, customer service, and multitasking skills
• A positive, team-oriented attitude with the willingness to learn, take ownership, and grow into greater responsibility
