Job Description: Assistant manager

We’re Opening in Cambridge – November 2026!

We’re excited to be opening our brand-new café in Cambridge this November, and we’re looking for a talented and enthusiastic Assistant Manager to join us from day one.

This will be our third hospitality venue, so you’ll be joining an established, independent business with a proven track record - but with the opportunity to help shape a brand-new café, team and culture from the very beginning.

We’re a fun, independent business with a big focus on great food, great service and creating a workplace where people enjoy coming to work.

And there’s no late-night hospitality here. We’re a DAYTIME ONLY café, giving you the opportunity to build a rewarding career in hospitality while enjoying a better work-life balance.

If you’re someone who loves hospitality, enjoys working with people and wants a role where you can genuinely make a difference, we’d love to hear from you!

About the Role

As Assistant Manager, you’ll work closely with the General Manager to help run the café day to day, lead the team and maintain the high standards we’re known for.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being involved in every part of the operation. You’ll support the General Manager with the running of the business, while taking ownership and responsibility when they’re not there.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the team during service and lead by example
  • Deliver a friendly, welcoming experience for every guest
  • Support with opening and closing the café and ensure each shift runs smoothly
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, service, cleanliness and presentation
  • Support with team training, development and progression
  • Help create a fun, positive and supportive team environment
  • Support the General Manager with ordering and stock management
  • Keep on top of food safety, hygiene and EHO compliance
  • Ensure procedures and standards are followed consistently
  • Take responsibility for the smooth running of the café in the General Manager’s absence
  • Identify opportunities to improve the business and work with the General Manager to put ideas into action
  • Get stuck in wherever needed - no two days will be exactly the same!

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a fun, positive attitude and a genuine willingness to help others
  • Enjoys leading a team and bringing out the best in people
  • Has a hands-on approach and a willingness to get stuck in from day one
  • Can thrive in a busy brunch environment while putting our customers at the heart of what we do
  • Has strong communication and organisational skills
  • Has the ability to remain calm, professional and organised in a fast-paced environment
  • Enjoys working as part of a team and is confident taking responsibility during a shift
  • Takes pride in maintaining high standards and delivering great hospitality

What We Offer

  • Staff meal provided while on shift
  • 50% discount on extras beyond your allocated staff meal
  • 25% staff discount when visiting us!
  • Unlimited hot drinks while on shift, plus staff soft drinks
  • Training and development opportunities to support your growth
  • Supportive and friendly team environment
  • Annual team Christmas party
  • Daytime-only hospitality with no late-night finishes
  • The opportunity to be part of a brand-new café from day one
  • A genuine opportunity to progress within a growing independent business
  • A supportive management team and a business where your contribution genuinely matters

Skills & Experience

Required:

  • Previous experience in a café, restaurant or hospitality leadership role: 2 years

Preferred:

  • Bar management experience: 2 years
  • Customer service experience: 2 years
  • Management experience: 2 years
