McAlister’s Deli in Sandy is seeking a dependable, organized, and motivated Assistant General Manager to join our leadership team. This position works closely with the General Manager to help ensure the restaurant operates efficiently while delivering outstanding food, hospitality, and service to every guest.

We are looking for someone who enjoys leading people, solving problems, improving systems, and taking pride in running a great restaurant. The successful candidate will have meaningful responsibility and autonomy while working closely with the General Manager to maintain strong daily execution.

Position Summary

The Assistant General Manager serves as the General Manager’s second-in-command and plays an important role in the daily operation of the restaurant. This is a hands-on leadership position that combines restaurant operations with administrative responsibilities. The position is intended for a dependable restaurant professional who can help lead the team, maintain standards, and keep essential systems running consistently.

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership

• Lead shifts and support daily restaurant operations
• Coach, motivate, and develop team members and shift leaders
• Assist with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training employees
• Foster a positive, professional, and accountable team culture
• Serve as Manager-on-Duty and make sound operating decisions when needed

Administrative and Financial Controls

• Create and maintain employee schedules with appropriate management coverage
• Assist with payroll administration and labor management
• Complete inventory counts and maintain accurate inventory records
• Place Sysco, produce, and supply orders and monitor stock levels
• Monitor food cost, labor cost, waste, and operating expenses
• Assist with cash controls, daily reconciliation, and timely bank deposits
• Review guest feedback, resolve concerns, and support service recovery
• Maintain accurate operational records and communicate significant issues promptly

Restaurant Operations

• Ensure food quality, order accuracy, speed of service, and hospitality standards
• Maintain food safety, sanitation, cleanliness, and brand standards
• Support catering preparation, execution, and customer satisfaction
• Open and close the restaurant as business needs require
• Help improve operational consistency, staffing, and team performance
• Work alongside the team and step into operating positions when needed

Qualifications

• Previous restaurant leadership or management experience preferred
• Experience with employee scheduling, inventory, or food ordering strongly preferred
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable using computers, restaurant systems, and administrative tools
• Dependable, professional, and able to make decisions under pressure
• Ability to lead by example and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Reliable transportation and dependable attendance
• Availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require
