Assistant Manager

We are now looking for an Assistant Manager to join our Bury St Edmunds store. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a busy café environment, leads from the front, and takes real pride in standards.

You will work closely with the Store Manager to drive performance, support the team, and ensure every customer experience reflects the Toast brand. When the Store Manager is not present, you will confidently take ownership of the shop floor and keep the operation running smoothly.

What you’ll be responsible for

You will support the commercial performance of the store, helping to achieve targets across turnover, labour control, waste management, service timings, and customer feedback. You will lead shifts with pace and confidence, ensuring service is efficient, warm, and consistent even during peak periods.

You will play a key role in developing the Bury team. That includes supporting recruitment, training, onboarding, rota management, and maintaining a fair, motivated, and positive working environment. You will help set the tone on shift, model high standards, and work with the Store Manager to address performance where needed.

You will ensure the store consistently meets TOAST'S standards in stock control, cleanliness, food safety, health and safety, and overall presentation. Attention to detail matters. Standards matter. Brand matters.

You will also help embed our ethical values in everyday practice, from sustainability initiatives to how we treat our people. Culture is not an afterthought at Toast. It is central to how we operate.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone with supervisory experience in retail or food service, ideally within a café or coffee-led environment. You should be commercially aware, comfortable with KPIs, and confident making decisions on shift.

You must be able to lead a team during busy trading periods without losing energy or composure. You should care about standards, care about people, and care about delivering consistently strong customer experiences.

Most importantly, you should want to grow. This role is ideal for someone ready to step up, take more responsibility, and develop towards future store leadership.
