Our Ponsonby site sits in one of Auckland’s busiest hospitality precincts, and we’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Assistant Manager to help lead the day-to-day operation of the cinema.

About the Role
As Second-in-Command to the Complex Manager, you’ll play a key role in the daily running of Silky Otter Ponsonby. This role is ideal for an experienced Duty Manager or hospitality/retail leader who is ready to take real ownership of a site’s day-to-day operations.

You’ll be responsible for leading shifts, supporting the team, maintaining high standards across service and presentation, and helping ensure every guest experience is smooth, polished, and memorable.

A strong focus of this role will be operational consistency. This includes supporting sales, stock control, inventory management, reporting, site presentation, and helping the cinema meet key business targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and lead cinema operations in the absence of the Complex Manager
• Take ownership of day-to-day site operations during rostered shifts
• Manage daily shifts, ensuring outstanding customer service and team performance
• Open and close the cinema in line with company procedures
• Oversee cash handling, stock control, stocktake, ordering support, and inventory management
• Maintain high standards of site presentation, cleanliness, and guest experience
• Monitor and manage technical systems with support from the National Technical Manager
• Assist with staff rostering, training, development, and team engagement
• Respond to customer enquiries and feedback with professionalism and care
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, company procedures, and health and safety standards

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience in a Duty Manager, Assistant Manager, or similar supervisory role
• Hospitality, cinema, entertainment, or retail management experience preferred
• Confidence leading a team in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to lead by example
• Experience or genuine interest in stocktake, stock control, and inventory management
• A hands-on leader who is comfortable taking ownership and making decisions on shift
• Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards
• Availability to work a rotating roster, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays
