What they need
Job title: Assistant Manager | Boulder Co. Christchurch
- Full time, permanent, 40 hours a week
- Lead a great team at a gym built on community
- Start date negotiable, before 30 November 2026
Boulder Co. Christchurch is a large indoor bouldering gym, fitness space and café/bar in Riccarton. We bring people together through climbing. Our gyms are built like a clubhouse, we’re strong on connection, and they're for everyone, not just a few.
To bring this to life, we're looking for an Assistant Manager to work alongside our Operations Manager to keep the place safe, friendly, efficient and buzzing, and to make sure everyone who walks in feels like they belong.
The roleThis is a full-time, permanent position of 40 hours a week. Up to 20 of those hours are rostered Duty Manager shifts, where you run the floor, the team and the front of house. The rest is behind-the-scenes work that keeps the whole gym ticking. You'll work five days a week on shifts, which may include some late nights, early mornings and weekends.
What you'll do
- Be the go-to person for staff
- Lead Duty Manager shifts: opening, closing, cash-up, and looking after the team and customers on the day
- Act as a legally appointed Duty Manager for the sale and supply of alcohol
- Help with rostering across the wall, café and coaching teams
- Support onboarding, training and development, and be a direct report for our team
- Keep our health, safety and hygiene standards high, including safety inductions for every visitor
- Help with timesheet approvals, banking, membership queries and invoices
- Help plan and run events and competitions
- Keep the pro shop and café stocked and looking good
- Lead by example and help build a positive, respectful team culture
What you'll bring
- A genuine love of climbing
- Hospitality experience, including ordering, cash handling, barista skills and handling alcohol
- Experience working in a safety management system, and the eye to spot and fix hazards
- Leadership skills, and the ability to deal with whatever the day throws at you
- Great people skills with customers, staff and suppliers
- A current first aid certificate
- NZ residency or a valid work visa
- A current LCQ and Duty Manager's certificate (preferred)
Applying early helps. We're reviewing applications as they arrive and may appoint before the close, as soon as the right person comes along. Applications close 30 October 2026.
