The role

We're looking for a warm, guest-focused Assistant Manager to join the team at The Royal Oak in Duddington (PE9 3QE), a country pub with 7 bedrooms. Working closely with our General Manager, you'll help run the pub and the business day to day – leading the team on the floor, looking after our drinkers, diners and overnight guests, and making sure every visit is a great one. Full-time, salaried position – working 5 days out of 7.

Salary: up to £40,000 per year OTE (including tronc).

What you'll be doing

• Supporting the General Manager with running the pub and the business
• Assisting with staff rotas, holidays, appraisals and other day-to-day people management
• Opening and closing the pub
• Cashing up and balancing the till systems at the end of the night
• Communicating with guests about bookings, and maximising bookings through our management booking system
• Making sure check-in and check-out for our bedroom guests is seamless and to a high standard
• Leading from the front on the floor, with a focus on excellent service and a warm, welcoming manner
• Ongoing training and support of the team
• Placing orders and keeping stock levels on track
• Ensuring the building is immaculately maintained at all times
• Attending management meetings and contributing ideas to help grow the business

What we're looking for

• Strong leadership skills and the confidence to run a shift and motivate a team
• Most importantly, a positive attitude and a real desire to learn and develop
• Guest and floor focused – all about service, with excellent customer service and a welcoming manner
• Previous supervisory or management experience in hospitality is essential
• Well organised, with a good eye for detail and high standards
• Confident with tills, cashing up and booking systems
• Great communication skills with guests and colleagues alike
• Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including breakfasts, evenings, weekends and bank holidays
