Assistant Manager Logistics

Key Responsibilities

• Logistics Operations
• Manage day-to-day logistics and transportation operations.
• Ensure timely movement and delivery of finished goods, raw materials, and other supplies.
• Coordinate with warehouses, distribution teams, suppliers, transporters, and relevant departments.
• Monitor dispatches and deliveries to ensure adherence to agreed timelines.
• Transportation & Fleet Management
• Plan and optimize transportation routes to reduce delivery time and costs.
• Coordinate with third-party transporters, logistics providers, and fleet operators.
• Monitor vehicle utilization, fuel consumption, maintenance, and transportation expenses.
• Ensure vehicles are available and suitable for operational requirements.
• Distribution & Shipment Planning
• Develop daily and weekly dispatch plans based on sales orders and business requirements.
• Coordinate with sales, warehouse, and supply chain teams to ensure order fulfillment.
• Track shipments and resolve delays, delivery issues, and customer complaints.
• Ensure proper handling and delivery of goods to prevent damage or loss.
• Cost Control & Budgeting
• Monitor transportation, freight, fuel, and distribution costs.
• Identify opportunities to reduce logistics expenses without compromising service quality.
• Analyze transporter rates and negotiate competitive pricing.
• Prepare logistics cost reports and support departmental budgeting.
• Vendor & Transporter Management
• Evaluate and manage third-party logistics providers and transporters.
• Monitor vendor performance against agreed service-level agreements (SLAs).
• Maintain transportation contracts, rate agreements, and vendor documentation.
• Resolve service issues and maintain effective vendor relationships.
• Documentation & Compliance
• Ensure accurate maintenance of delivery challans, invoices, shipment records, and transport documents.
• Ensure compliance with applicable transportation, safety, and company requirements.
• Maintain records for audits, claims, and logistics-related expenses.
• Coordinate the resolution of shipment discrepancies and damaged or lost goods.
• Reporting & Performance Monitoring
• Prepare periodic reports on delivery performance, freight costs, vehicle utilization, and shipment status.
• Monitor KPIs, including on-time delivery, transportation cost per shipment, and order fulfillment.
• Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
• Use ERP systems and Excel to maintain logistics data and prepare reports.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Master’s degree or relevant professional certification will be an advantage.
• 4–6 years of relevant experience in logistics, transportation, or distribution, preferably in a manufacturing, FMCG, or pharmaceutical organization.
• At least 1–2 years of experience in a supervisory or team coordination role is preferred.
