Assistant Manager Npd

NPI & Gate Management:

• Own heavy fabrication/welding industrialization from prototype to pilot and SOP for assigned NPI projects.
• Plan and close NPD gate deliverables for fabrication process, fixtures, WPS/PQR, PFMEA, inspection and readiness.
• Drive DFM/weldability reviews with Design/R&D and close manufacturability risks before physical build.

Welding Process Expertise:

• Establish and optimize MIG, MAG and TIG welding processes for heavy earthmoving attachments, chassis and cylinder assemblies.
• Prepare/review WPS and PQR; define welding sequence, parameters, consumables, preheat/interpass controls and distortion-control methods.
• Coordinate welding qualification, inspection and NDT requirements with Quality and ensure compliance to applicable standards.

Fixture Design & Fabrication:

• Design, detail, fabricate/coordinate fabrication, trial and validate welding fixtures/jigs from prototype build onward.
• Ensure fixture repeatability, datum strategy, clamping, accessibility, poka-yoke, ergonomics and distortion control.

Robotic Welding & Automation:

• Support setup, programming and troubleshooting of robotic welding cells; optimize parameters and cycle time.
• Identify practical mechanization/automation opportunities for heavy components and rapid NPI.

Quality & Problem Solving:

• Lead weld-defect RCA using 8D, 7 QC tools, 5 Why/Fishbone and SPC/Cpk.
• Drive FPY improvement and reduction of weld scrap, rework, repair and recurring defects.
• Ensure ISO 9001 and ISO 3834 requirements are reflected in NPI process controls and records.

Execution & CFT Coordination:

• Coordinate Production, Quality, IE, SCM/Purchase, Design/R&D and suppliers to remove NPI constraints.
• Track daily critical actions, fixture/material readiness, weld-process readiness and build constraints; escalate risks to the Head MED/NPI.
• Deliver prototype/pilot milestones under pressure with clear owner, due date and evidence.
• Standardize successful processes and lessons learned for future NPI programs.

Knowledge/skills desirable

• Heavy fabrication and welding; MIG/MAG/TIG; weld sequence and distortion control; fixture/jig design; WPS/PQR; PFMEA; NPD gate system; DFM/weldability; drawing/GD&T robotic welding; weld inspection/NDT; 8D/7 QC tools; SPC/Cpk; ISO 9001 and ISO 3834.
• Certifications strongly required AWS CWI and/or CSWIP 3.1/3.2; ASNT Level II/III in applicable VT/MT/PT/UT methods.
• CAD/3D fixture design; robotic welding programming/troubleshooting; welding codes/standards; ERP/MS Office.
• Strong communication, CFT leadership, structured problem solving and execution under pressureExperience with earthmoving attachments, chassis, cylinder assemblies and other high-stress heavy-fabrication products preferred.
• Must be able to lead rapid NPI industrialization, handle multiple projects simultaneously and deliver prototype/pilot milestones under pressure.
