O’Dowd’s Irish Bar in Ellerslie is looking for an enthusiastic, hands-on Assistant Manager / 2IC to work alongside our Venue Manager and help make O’Dowd’s the go-to spot for great pints, live sport, good food and unforgettable nights.

From big Warriors and Auckland FC match days to Sunday roasts, trad music, UFC on the big screens and our famous Spice Bags, there’s always something happening at O’Dowd’s. We need someone who thrives on the buzz and knows how to bring the best out of a team.

About the Role

Working closely with the Venue Manager, you’ll help lead daily operations, support the team and deliver an outstanding experience for every guest.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the Venue Manager with the day-to-day running of the venue.
• Leading from the front, supervising shifts and keeping service running smoothly.
• Motivating, training and supporting the front-of-house team.
• Creating a positive team culture where people enjoy coming to work.
• Maintaining high standards of customer service, cleanliness and presentation.
• Assisting with rostering, stock control, ordering and other operational tasks.
• Handling customer feedback and resolving issues confidently.
• Helping deliver busy match days, events and weekend service.
• Ensuring compliance with liquor licensing, health and safety requirements.

About You

We can teach you the O’Dowd’s way, but personality, leadership and a genuine passion for hospitality are what really count.

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience as a Duty Manager, Shift Supervisor or Assistant Manager in hospitality.
• A current NZ Manager’s Certificate and a sound understanding of responsible alcohol service.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to lead a team.
• A hands-on attitude — you’re happiest out on the floor, not stuck in the office.
• The ability to stay calm, organised and positive when the venue is pumping.
• A genuine passion for customer service, great food, drinks and creating memorable experiences.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and busy event days.
• You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand and be able to provide evidence of your work eligibility.
