ABOUT SUMMERFIELD TEA BAR
Our Mission is to create a welcoming space where people can build real connection and community, one sip, one bite at a time. A world where every community has a place to socialize. Where strangers become friends, and every moment is a reason to stay. Not the biggest. Not the loudest. But a space built on a vision shaped by culture, community, and the belief that a sip can bring people together.
THE ROLE
The Assistant Manager is the Store Manager's right hand and the store's leader in their absence. This role exists to make sure standards, people, and daily execution never slip, no matter who's on shift. You'll coach and develop the team, support hiring and scheduling, own food safety and inventory, and keep the numbers and the guest experience on track. It's where you learn to run a business, not just a shift — real operational responsibility, real mentorship, and a genuine path to running a store of your own. Everything you do here protects the feeling guests come back for and the company we're building.
Assistant Manager is where you learn to run a business. Here's the path and what each stage builds:
Barista
Master hospitality, craftsmanship, consistency, teamwork, and the guest experience.
↓
Shift Lead
Learn to coach, communicate, hold accountability, and lead others well.
↓
Assistant Manager ← you are here
Learn business operations, scheduling, hiring, inventory, and financial responsibility.
↓
Store Manager
Run an entire business — develop leaders, own financial performance, and build a strong culture.
↓
Regional Leadership
Support multiple locations, coach leaders, improve systems, and help shape company growth.
↓
Future Franchise Ownership
For exceptional leaders, the potential to operate and grow their own Summerfield business as we expand.
We promote from within whenever we can. Advancement here is earned through mastery and certification — and every stage builds real leadership, financial know-how, and long-term opportunity, not just a new title.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE BUILDING A CAREER HERE
- Learn to run a business — operations, scheduling, hiring, inventory, and financial responsibility
- Real mentorship from your Store Manager — this seat is where our Store Managers come from
- Leadership systems that make you better — RACI decision-making, coaching, and documentation
- Transferable skills that compound — the operational judgment that runs any business, anywhere
- Grow alongside a growing company — as we open stores and franchise, strong Assistant Managers lead the way
- Manager-level benefits — including PTO and paid sick leave
Operational Leadership
- Run the store in the Store Manager's absence with full operational authority (the accountable owner on shift)
- Open and close the store; own daily checklist completion, cleanliness, and quality to standard
- Enforce SOPs and keep every shift consistent — same drink, same standard, every visit
- Contribute daily reporting on sales, labor, and any incidents to the Store Manager
Coaching, Hiring & Training
- Coach and develop team members — lead with coaching over inspecting, and sign off certifications to the 3-of-3 standard
- Support hiring and onboarding: interviews, Day-1 paperwork, and driving new hires to Level 1 within their first week
- Support scheduling and labor: help build compliant 7-day schedules, manage swaps and time-off, and hold the store's labor target
- Document coaching and warnings same-day using our WWWWSAN format, and apply tiered warnings appropriately
Food Safety & Inventory
- Own food-safety mastery: the Big Six pathogens, the illness decision tree, temperature logs, allergens, and California Cal Code compliance
- Manage inventory: weekly counts, par levels, and ordering through the correct channels ahead of par
- Resolve guest issues with the LAST framework and handle escalations correctly per our decision matrix
Ownership Mindset
- Own outcomes, not tasks — step up and make the call when it's yours to make
- Protect the guest experience, your team, and the store's assets like an owner would
- Solve problems before they become the Store Manager's problem
- Model the standard and the work ethic you expect from everyone else
Required
- 1+ year of food service, café, or retail leadership experience
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Comfort with both front-of-house operations and back-office administration
- Ability to obtain an ANAB-accredited Food Handler card within 30 days of hire
- Full availability including weekends, opening, and closing shifts
Preferred
- Experience coaching, training, or developing a team
- Familiarity with Toast POS, Connecteam, and scheduling tools
- Prior QSR, café, or boba/tea experience
- Bilingual ability (a plus, not required)
This role is built for someone with an owner's mindset who's ready to build a real career in operations. You'll fit if you take pride in doing things right, want honest feedback, and are someone who:
- Takes ownership and holds the standard without being asked
- Leads people well — patient in coaching, clear in accountability
- Is organized, dependable, and calm when things get hectic
- Genuinely enjoys developing others and building their trust
- Cares deeply about consistency, hospitality, and representing the brand well
- Is building toward running a store of their own
SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS
- Full-time, 32–40 hours per week, including opening and closing coverage
- Weekend and holiday availability required
- On-site administrative time completed in uniform.
- Store Manager and Assistant Manager cannot be scheduled off at the same time
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Standing, walking, and reaching for extended periods throughout a shift
- Lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs (ice, supplies, deliveries)
- Working in a fast-paced environment through peak windows
- Hands-on drink and food preparation, plus cleaning and sanitation tasks
