Assistant Manager - Research & Development

About the role

You’ll lead product development work from idea to launch and help improve existing products. This is a hands-on R&D role, working closely with the production, quality, sourcing, packaging and marketing teams.

What you’ll do

• Develop new products and improve existing ones, from concept to commercial launch
• Plan and run lab trials and pilot batches, and record the results
• Work on formulations, ingredients, shelf life and product stability
• Support scale-up from lab to factory with the production team
• Look at cost and ingredient options to bring product cost down without hurting quality
• Make sure products meet food safety, labelling and local regulatory requirements
• Track market trends, competitor products and new ingredients
• Keep proper formulation records, trial reports and technical documents
• Guide and review the work of junior R&D executives

What we’re looking for

• Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field
• 5-6 years of experience purely in R&D or product development in FMCG, food or beverage
• Currently a Senior Executive, Assistant Manager or Manager in R&D
• Hands-on experience with formulation, trials and scale-up
• Good knowledge of food safety standards and regulations
• Able to manage projects and work with different teams
• Clear communication and good documentation habits

Good to have

• Experience in dairy, beverages, confectionery or snacks
• Knowledge of Sri Lankan food regulations
• Experience in cost optimisation
