Assistant Manager – Technical & Development

About the role

This role involves leading technical development and product commercialization within the chemical or specialty chemical industry. You will manage the full lifecycle of product development from identification through market launch, provide technical support to customers and internal teams, and coordinate cross-functional projects while ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop new products, formulations, and applications based on market needs
• Support commercialization of successfully developed products
• Provide technical support to customers, sales teams, and internal departments
• Troubleshoot product and application problems and recommend suitable technical solutions
• Lead and coordinate technical development projects from pipeline through commercialization
• Establish development timelines, testing requirements, and project milestones
• Track project progress and provide regular updates to management
• Work closely with key customers to understand technical requirements and application needs
• Ensure new and existing products meet required technical specifications and quality standards
• Supervise and guide technical and chemist staff where applicable

About you

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Science, Chemical Engineering or related fields
• 5-8 years of relevant experience in business development, sales, or technical account management, preferably in the chemical or specialty chemical industry
• Preferably 2-3 years in a supervisory or executive role
• Good knowledge of chemical properties and product applications
• Able to translate technical requirements into commercially viable products
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
• Good understanding of product costing and commercialization feasibility
• Good project planning, coordination, and follow-up skills
• Excellent command of written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia
• Willing to travel for customer visits, outstation, and market development as required
