Assistant Marine Operations Manager

Overview

Central Boat Rentals is seeking an experienced Assistant Operations Manager to support the day-to-day management of our marine operations. This position provides operational oversight of vessels and equipment owned, operated, and/or chartered by Central Boat Rentals and works closely with vessel crews, dispatch, maintenance, crewing, safety, sales, and customers to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

The Assistant Operations Manager will serve as a key support to the Operations Manager and must be capable of assuming increased operational responsibility when needed. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of inland marine operations, waterways, vessel scheduling, customer service, regulatory requirements, and vessel maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the daily coordination and scheduling of vessels, equipment, crews, and job assignments.
• Review morning vessel position reports and monitor vessel status throughout the day.
• Communicate job requirements, schedules, customer expectations, and operational changes to vessel crews.
• Maintain regular communication with customers regarding vessel status, job progress, and operational needs.
• Coordinate with Dispatch, Personnel/Crewing, Maintenance, Safety, Port Engineers, and vessel Captains to support successful job execution.
• Prepare and generate rental tickets when jobs are awarded and drive billing process to completion.
• Review job information, salesman bids, and customer quotes to ensure proper operational execution.
• Assist with supervising and providing direction to Captains, dispatchers, operations personnel, and other assigned staff.
• Identify and resolve operational issues involving vessels, personnel, equipment, scheduling conflicts, and customer requirements.
• Coordinate with Maintenance and Engineering to maximize vessel availability, address equipment issues, schedule repairs, and minimize operational downtime.
• Monitor fleet performance and maintain accurate operational records and documentation.
• Support employee performance management, coaching, evaluations, and development within the Operations Department.
• Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, professionalism, and operational excellence.
• Support compliance with USCG regulations, Subchapter M, the company Safety Management System (SMS), TMSA requirements, and other applicable regulatory and customer standards.

What We Are Looking For

This position requires someone who understands that successful marine operations depend on more than simply moving equipment from one location to another. The Assistant Operations Manager must be able to balance customer service, vessel availability, crew readiness, safety, regulatory compliance, maintenance needs, and operational efficiency.

We are looking for an individual who can communicate effectively with vessel crews and shore-based departments, solve problems before they become larger issues, hold employees accountable while providing support, and help strengthen the systems and processes used to manage our growing operation.

The right candidate will be comfortable taking ownership, making decisions, working across departments, and stepping in to support the Operations Manager whenever necessary.
