What they need
Following the retirement of our long-serving Farm Manager and the promotion of our current Assistant into that role, we have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Poultry Farm Manager to join our broiler farm near Shobdon, Herefordshire.
Working alongside the Farm Manager, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the farm. As your knowledge and confidence grow, you’ll work alongside the manager as a team. This is a varied, hands-on role with genuine long-term career progression within a well-established poultry business.
We're looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong practical ability and a genuine commitment to bird welfare. Previous poultry experience and qualifications would be advantageous, but we value the right person and mindset above all else.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the day-to-day management of the broiler farm.
- Maintaining the highest standards of bird welfare, biosecurity and housekeeping.
- Managing environmental controls, ventilation, feed and water systems.
- Completing farm records and ensuring Red Tractor and company standards are met.
- Supervising daily farm operations and taking full responsibility for the site when required.
- Assisting with crop turnarounds, maintenance and continuous improvement projects.
- Working with the wider farming team to maintain high standards across the business.
What we're looking for
- A practical, reliable person with excellent common sense and a strong work ethic.
- A genuine passion for maintaining high standards of bird welfare.
- Someone who takes pride in their work and enjoys working alone and being part of a team.
- A full UK driving licence is essential.
- Telehandler experience or certification would be advantageous, although training provided.
- Poultry experience and NVQ is desirable but not essential for the right candidate.
What we offer
- Excellent overall package, including competitive salary, dependent on experience and on-site accommodation if required.
- Performance-related bonus scheme.
- Workplace pension
- Opportunities for career progression within the business.
The role involves sharing responsibility for the farm with the Farm Manager, including an on-call rota. The working day typically begins at 7:00am with evening checks shared between the management team. Weekend duties are worked on a one weekend on, one weekend off basis with rest days shared accordingly.
We're proud of the reputation we've built as an employer. We invest in our people as much as our farms and are looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career with us.
