What they need
Assistant Project Manager (Masonry)
About the Role
We are an established, growing masonry contractor and home builder based in Lynchburg, VA. Alongside our active residential and commercial masonry projects, we build several spec homes each year. This role will focus mainly on masonry support.
We are seeking an ambitious, hands-on Assistant Project Manager to work directly with our owner to keep our masonry jobs running smoothly. You will handle day-to-day field operations, site visits, material logistics, and subcontractor setup and scheduling. You’ll also serve as a key point of contact for our masonry clients, providing high-level customer service, clear communication, and site updates. Additionally, you’ll partner closely with our internal Operations Admin to track project costs and administrative details.
While deep trade experience in every area isn't required on day one, candidates should have a solid grasp of masonry basics. You will receive direct mentorship from the owner to train up in masonry estimating, blueprint takeoffs, bidding, and full project oversight.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Masonry Support: Serve as a bridge between the field crew, office administration, and the project owner to keep commercial and residential masonry jobs running on schedule.
- Field Operations & Site Coordination: Perform site visits to monitor project progress, coordinate material deliveries, manage job site inventory, and address field issues as they arise.
- Masonry Estimating & Bidding (Mentorship): Shadow the business owner to learn blueprint takeoffs, material pricing, and proposal creation, with the goal of taking over estimating responsibilities over time.
- Operations Support: Help build and refine standard operating procedures for field logistics, material ordering, and site handoffs to support our continued growth.
- Spec Home Operations: May sometimes assist with trade subcontractor scheduling, site walk-throughs, permitting processes, and keeping residential home builds moving forward.
- Job Costing Alignment: Work alongside admin to turn in receipts, log job costs, and maintain accurate project timelines.
- Client Relationship Management: Act as a friendly, professional point of contact for homeowners, general contractors, and clients answering daily on-site questions, setting expectations, and keeping projects running smoothly without conflict.
Ideal Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in construction, trade work, or project coordination (we are open to training someone with strong field foundations).
- Ability to read blueprints, architectural plans, and project specifications.
- Excellent communication skills and a preference for spending time in the field rather than sitting behind a desk.
- Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and comfort using basic phone apps, spreadsheets, and tech tools.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record for local job site travel around the Lynchburg area.
- Ability to navigate active, unpaved job sites in varying weather conditions, perform light lifting (e.g., moving sample boards, small tools, or site materials), and safely navigate construction environments.
Why Join Us?
- Direct Mentorship: Learn estimating, project management, and subcontracting straight from the company owner.
- Clear Growth Path: Excellent opportunity to advance and grow in the company.
- Varied Work Environment: A great mix of specialized trade work and some residential home construction.
Salary & Benefits
- Base Salary Range: Competitive salary based on experience.
- Benefits:
- Retirement plan available with 3% company matching.
- Monthly vehicle/gas allowance or access to a company vehicle for job site runs.
- Monthly phone stipend.
- End-of-year performance bonus.
