What they need

About Us

Founded in 1997, we’ve spent the last 25 years building a reputation for excellence in delivery as one of the UK’s leading workplace consultancy and fit-out companies. Our clients come in all sizes from a broad range of sectors. Together, we push the boundaries of space and experience.

We're a vibrant and creative team dedicated to unlocking workplace potential. We do what we do because we love what we do. And we have fun along the way.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team on a fixed-term maternity cover contract.

Working across live construction projects, you’ll support our Quantity Surveying team with valuations, cost control, subcontractor payments, variations, procurement, forecasting and commercial reporting, as well as attending site visits and progress meetings.

We’re looking for someone with a relevant Quantity Surveying or construction-related qualification, or who is currently working towards one. You’ll have strong attention to detail, commercial awareness, good communication skills and an eagerness to develop your experience.

· Take part in the commercial handover from Estimating, reviewing the tender build-up, allowances, clarifications and contract documents to understand the project’s commercial position

· Read and understand the main contract and subcontract conditions (e.g. JCT, NEC), particularly payment, notice, variation and extension of time provisions

· Maintain contract records, including drawing and document registers, instructions, notices and key correspondence

· Measure work completed on site and help prepare interim valuations and applications for payment to the client

· Assess subcontractor applications for payment against work done on site, allowing for retention, discounts and contra-charges, and prepare payment and pay less notices

· Track client and subcontract payment dates and notice deadlines so that contractual timescales are met

· Check supplier invoices against orders and delivery records, and resolve discrepancies before approval

· Record and price variations, instructions and daywork, keeping the project variation log up to date

· Identify potential changes in scope, and raise them with the Quantity Surveyor so that notices can be issued in time

· Assist in preparing and agreeing variation accounts and final accounts with clients and subcontractors

· Prepare subcontract and supply enquiry packages, obtaining a competitive number of quotations (minimum of three, where applicable) and comparing them like-for-like

· Assist in preparing subcontract orders and material purchase orders in line with the Company’s procurement and authorisation process

· Assist in negotiating rates, terms, Main Contractor’s Discounts and rebates with subcontractors and suppliers, under guidance

· Code and record project costs accurately in Business Central, correcting mis-allocations promptly

· Assist with monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), including cost to complete and forecast final margin

· Prepare and update project cashflow forecasts and monitor actual against forecast

· Help compile monthly commercial reports for internal review

· Flag cost overruns, commercial risks and opportunities to the Quantity Surveyor as soon as they are identified

· Attend site visits and progress meetings to monitor progress, measure work and understand issues affecting cost

· Work with Project Managers and site teams on programme, resourcing and buildability matters that affect cost

· Seek advice from the Project Manager / QHSE Advisor on health, safety and environmental requirements, ensuring cost implications are captured

· Feed back actual costs and lessons learned to the Estimating team to improve future tender pricing

· Provide support to the Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager as required

Pay: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Bereavement leave
  • Company pension
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee discount
  • Private medical insurance
  • Referral programme
  • Sick pay
