Mont is an independent Australian adventure equipment company founded in 1981. Our flagship shop in Fyshwick brings together Mont gear and specialist outdoor brands for bushwalking, climbing, trail running, backcountry skiing and more. We care about well-made equipment and helping people choose, use and look after the right gear.

We’re looking for a practical, approachable Assistant Manager to support our existing Shop Manager. You’ll be a hands-on presence on the shop floor, serving customers, supporting the team, and ensuring administrative work between customers gets done.

What you will do

·       Lead daily floor operations, setting priorities, and coordinating the team during your shifts, including one day every weekend.

·       Help customers in choosing suitable gear, explaining product care, coaching colleagues to provide informed and friendly service, and drawing on specialist support when needed.

·       Keep stock replenished and deliver seasonal displays and promotions, working closely with the Shop Manager and Warehouse & Inventory team.

·       Manage daily follow-up of shop customer orders, enquiries, warranties and repairs, working with the relevant Mont teams to keep customers informed.

·       Support roster preparation.

·       Share keyholder, opening, closing, and cash handling duties.

·       Assist with stock takes and occasional promotional events.

What you will bring

·       Previous experience in retail at supervisory level, or comparable experience coordinating people in a customer-facing environment.

·       Willingness to work within a team environment.

·       Strong customer service and selling skills

·       Calm approach towards handling complaints and competing priorities.

·       Ability to allocate work, coach colleagues, and maintain a positive and organised shop floor.

·       Consistent administration, attention to detail and follow-through on customer orders and enquiries.

·       Practical experience with point-of-sale, cash handling, stock control, and everyday computer systems.

·       An interest in the outdoors and enthusiasm for building technical product knowledge. Practical outdoor gear or fitting experience is highly regarded.

The role

Based at our Fyshwick shop, this is a full-time salaried role supporting the Shop Manager and leading the floor when rostered. The role includes one day every weekend, with weekday days off arranged through the roster. You and the Shop Manager will coordinate together, so one of you is present each trading day across the seven-day week. You’ll have the opportunity to help shape the daily customer experience and develop your retail leadership and product knowledge.

Salary: $70k -$80k + Super
