Job Description

Assistant Carpentry Supervisor

Location: Multi-Campus (Travel between 4–5 local campus sites required)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Essential Personnel – Subject to emergency response)
Job Type: Full-time

About the Role

Are you a skilled trade professional who excels at leadership, scheduling, and high-level communication?

We are looking for an Assistant Carpentry Supervisor to lead our day-to-day Carpentry, Paint, and Lock Shop operations across 4 to 5 campus locations. While a solid technical background in carpentry is important, this role is less about custom fabrication—which we farm out to specialty vendors—and more about keeping our campuses safe, functional, and running smoothly for our students, faculty, and administration.

As a key leader for our unionized team, you will act as the bridge between hands-on trade work and campus administration. If you are tech-savvy, proactive, organized, and energized by solving daily operational challenges, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities;
Operational Leadership & Supervision: Guide, mentor, and supervise union staff across 4–5 distinct campus locations. Inspect finished work to ensure top-quality standards.

Work Order & Workflow Management: Prioritize, assign, and track daily work orders across the Carpentry, Paint, and Lock Shops using modern management tools to keep projects moving on schedule.

Administrative & Stakeholder Communication: Partner effectively with school administration, department heads, and business partners. Serve as a clear, professional communicator for trade-related needs.

Budget & Material Control: Order necessary tools, materials, and supplies efficiently while managing shop budgets—with a strong focus on controlling and authorizing overtime.

Multi-Task Management: Balance multiple ongoing work orders, maintenance routines, and unexpected daily priorities without missing deadlines.

Emergency Preparedness: Serve as essential personnel, responding swiftly to campus emergencies when needed to maintain safety and security.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $86,000 to $107,500; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

Qualifications & Skills
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in construction, facilities maintenance, or managing a large, complex building portfolio.

Education & Credentials: Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or active State Licensure / Construction Trade Certifications.

Tech Proficiency: Comfortable with digital tools, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Chat, Drive), and Smartsheet. Experience with electronic work order systems and digital timekeeping is a major plus.

Leadership & Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound operational decisions independently.

Licensure: Must hold and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements
Ability to physically navigate multiple campus properties daily.
Comfort walking significant distances, climbing stairs, and using ladders as standard parts of site inspections and emergency response.
