Assistant Teacher (Preschool) / Float

UW Children's Center at Portage Bay is searching for assistant teachers/floats to join our school. The assistant teacher/float role will support all classroom age groups (infant, toddler, preschool) as needed by the school.
Our school follows RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers) and Montessori philosophy.

Key responsibilities include:

• Bringing joy, warmth, and welcome to the classroom environment
• Supervision and engagement of children
• Supporting the implementation of the Montessori philosophy in the classroom
• Supporting children's bodily care, including toileting/diapering
• Able to maintain boundaries and expectations with children
• Working as a positive contributing member of a team of teachers
• Engaging with families
• Organization of classroom environment
• Supporting in the creation of projects school wide
• Occasionally supporting our kitchen team by doing dishes
• Assisting the teacher in classroom management
• Prepping materials and activities for the class
• Keeping the tidy/cleaning messes as they arise
• Strong communication with fellow team members and admin
• Stay current with required trainings and education for role

To be successful in this role, candidates must be reliable and flexible, with a positive attitude and willingness to work collaboratively.

Job Schedule: The school is open 7am - 6pm every week . We are looking to fill two roles.
Part time: M-F (2 pm - 6pm)
Full Time: M-F (9am - 5pm)
Exact time to be verified at time of hire.

Job Requirements:

• Full time early childhood experience preferred
• Eligible to work in the US
• At least 18 years old
• 30 hour STARS basic Training (before or upon hire)
• Cleared background check through DCYF (before or upon hire)
• Proof of MMR vaccination (before or upon hire)
• Negative TB test taken within the past year (before or upon hire)
• Child first aid and CPR Training (before or upon hire)
• BBP training (before or upon hire)
• Food handlers permit (before or upon hire)
• Safe sleep training (before or upon hire)

Minimum Performance Standards:

Must be able to:

• Lift up to 50 lbs
• Move from floor to standing on a repeated basis
• Pivot on a daily basis to support the needs of the school
• Learn different classroom styles (with training)
• Attend events which serve the families enrolled within the classroom to which you are assigned
