Assistant Technical Officer (Temporary Appointment) (Ref. 260826005)

[Appointment period: twelve months]

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) assist in the coordination and maintenance of teaching and research laboratories within the Unit, as well as in ensuring their smooth operation;

(b) carry out routine maintenance of teaching and research instruments;

(c) order chemicals, consumables and apparatus for the teaching and research laboratories;

(d) prepare reagents, samples and equipment, and perform demonstrations for students in practical classes;

(e) provide technical assistance to research and project students;

(f) check and update the stock and inventory of chemicals and instruments;

(g) assist in the implementation of health and safety policies of the University; and

(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a recognised degree in Biomedical Science or an equivalent qualification, preferably with a master’s degree in the said discipline.

Preference will be given to those with post‑qualification experience in at least two disciplines, namely cellular pathology, clinical chemistry, haematology or medical microbiology or post‑qualification experience in molecular biology and cell culture techniques.
