Assistant Technician – Highway Design

We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Technician to join our Highway Design team at iTransport.

This is an entry level opportunity that would suit someone with a relevant technical qualification, degree or equivalent experience who has some knowledge or practical experience of AutoCAD and is keen to develop a career in transport and highway design.

You don’t need previous consultancy experience. We are looking for someone with a good technical foundation, a willingness to learn and an interest in developing their highway design skills while working on live projects.

What you will be doing

Working alongside experienced members of our team, you will support a range of highway design and transport projects. Your role will include:

• Producing and updating technical drawings using AutoCAD
• Supporting the coordination and review of traffic and other project surveys
• Processing and analysing transport and survey data
• Assisting with plans, figures and other technical outputs
• Supporting concept designs and project documentation
• Attending site visits and gathering project information
• Learning about highway design standards and industry guidance
• Working with colleagues across project teams and developing your technical skills

What we are looking for

We would love to hear from you if you:

• Are looking to start your career in highway design or transport
• Have knowledge or practical experience of AutoCAD, gained through education, training, work experience or employment
• Are comfortable working with numbers and technical information
• Have good attention to detail
• Are confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
• Are organised and keen to learn
• Enjoy working as part of a team and solving problems
• Have an interest in transport, highways, engineering or the built environment

Experience of GIS, Adobe Illustrator, traffic or survey data, swept path analysis or vehicle tracking would be useful, but isn’t essential.
