Assistant Vice President - Strategy

Role Purpose:

Lead the development and implementation of strategies for NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB) and its subsidiaries, with a focus on nanotechnology and the hydrogen ecosystem, including alternative hydrogen carriers. The role supports strategic positioning, technology commercialisation, investment opportunities, policy development and industry collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

1.    Strategic Roadmap Development and Execution

• Lead the formulation and execution of the 5-Year Strategic Roadmap (2026–2030) for NMB and its subsidiaries through structured planning and collaboration across divisions.
• Analyse market trends, the competitive landscape, niche value propositions and commercial product positioning to identify strategic priorities.
• Evaluate NMB’s physical and non-physical assets, internal capabilities and R&D projects to identify strengths and commercialisation opportunities.

2.    Hydrogen Ecosystem Research and Strategic Analysis

• Develop and maintain a hydrogen ecosystem database based on companies engaged, including those involved in alternative hydrogen carriers, to identify potential partnerships and collaboration opportunities.
• Use the database to develop appropriate collaboration frameworks and assess issues and concerns affecting the hydrogen ecosystem.
• Prepare an internal white paper analysing the hydrogen ecosystem and identifying the niches NMB can serve based on its competitive advantages, capabilities and R&D projects.

3.    Market and Financial Performance Analysis

• Provide data-driven insights to management on market share growth and NMB’s position within targeted market segments.
• Assess return on investment (ROI) and financial returns from strategic projects and key initiatives.
• Analyse time to market (TTM) by tracking the duration from technology concept to product launch.

4.    Government and Policy Engagement

• Collaborate with internal divisions to prepare strategic white papers for government consideration and approval, including papers supporting the development of local hydrogen technology in Malaysia.
• Promote NMB, its subsidiaries and affiliates within the socio-economic landscape to strengthen industry presence and contribute to policy development.

5.    Hydrogen Malaysia Secretariat and Business Strategy

• Perform secretariat functions for the Hydrogen Malaysia (H2M) association, with NMB serving as the initial lead, and coordinate collaborative efforts with its members.
• Develop business strategies for H2M to generate revenue beyond membership fees, including aggregation-based initiatives.

6.    Hypertech Commercial Development and Technology Roadmap

• Facilitate the commercial development of Hypertech Industries Sdn. Bhd., an NMB subsidiary, by supporting investment funding opportunities and facilitating access to technology and technical support to expand the company and achieve profitability.
• Develop and implement technology and business strategies to achieve the long-term roadmap for solid-state hydrogen technology.

7.    Strategic Partnerships and Programme Implementation

• Develop cross-industry collaborations and strategic partnerships to advance NMB’s objectives, and support investment and commercial growth initiatives through strategic direction and technical expertise.
• Facilitate the implementation of the Global Clean Hydrogen Programme for Malaysia, a five-year programme funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and support the ongoing consultation study scheduled for completion by 2030.

8.    Other Responsibilities

• Prepare presentation slides, reports, papers and strategies relating to hydrogen, nanotechnology and other technology sectors, and undertake other ad hoc duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Engineering with a business or strategic focus, or Science or Technology relevant to nanotechnology or innovation.
• A master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Strategic Management, Economics, Finance, Science or Engineering is preferred.

Experience:

• 5 to 8 years of relevant working experience in strategic planning, business development or industry-related roles.

Language Proficiency:

• Strong command of spoken and written Bahasa Malaysia and English.

Preferred Skills:

• Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across divisions and external organisations.
• Strong research, analytical and report-writing skills, including the preparation of strategic papers and presentations.
• Knowledge or experience in hydrogen technology, alternative hydrogen carriers, nanotechnology or technology commercialisation is an advantage. Battery-related experience is also an advantage.
