Associate Attorney

Law Office of Rick Canales is seeking a motivated and dedicated Associate Attorney to join our growing legal team in Brownsville, Texas. The attorney will assist with a variety of criminal defense matters in both state and federal courts.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who is comfortable working with clients, conducting legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, and appearing in court. We are looking for an attorney who is professional, dependable, detail-oriented, and capable of handling cases with increasing independence while working closely with the firm’s lead attorney and legal staff.

Responsibilities:

• Represent clients in criminal defense matters in state and federal court.
• Attend hearings, arraignments, status conferences, and other court proceedings.
• Meet and communicate with clients regarding their cases.
• Conduct legal research
• Draft motions, pleadings, notices, correspondence, and other legal documents.
• Review discovery and assist with case preparation.
• Communicate with prosecutors, opposing counsel, courts, and other parties.
• Assist with negotiations, plea discussions, and case strategy.
• Maintain organized and accurate case files and meet court deadlines.
• Handle assigned matters professionally and ethically.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
• Professional demeanor and strong client-service skills.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
• Criminal defense or courtroom experience is preferred but not required.

Pay: From $72,000.00 per year
