What they need

Associate Attorney

The Purdy Firm, PLLC
Florida – Fully Remote
Salary: $75,000–$100,000, depending on experience

The Purdy Firm is a growing Florida law firm seeking an Associate Attorney to join our team. We are looking for an attorney with approximately three years of legal experience and meaningful courtroom or litigation experience who is ready to take on substantial responsibility without allowing the practice of law to consume the rest of their life.

We believe attorneys can do excellent work, serve their clients well, and build a successful career while still having a life outside of work. That does not mean the job is always 9 to 5. Litigation has deadlines, hearings run late, clients sometimes have urgent problems, and there will be times when a matter requires extra attention. But those should be the exceptions created by the needs of the work—not the everyday culture of the firm.

We are fully remote. There are no billable-hour requirements. We do not measure commitment by how long someone sits at a desk or how many six-minute increments appear on a timesheet. We expect excellent work, good judgment, responsiveness, and ownership of client matters. In return, we give our attorneys substantial autonomy and the support they need to do their jobs.

This is not exclusively a litigation position. The Associate Attorney will serve as the Firm's primary attorney on many of our contested and litigation matters while also handling other client matters based on the needs of the Firm and the attorney's developing areas of practice.

Our ideal candidate may come from a Public Defender's Office, State Attorney's Office, small civil litigation practice, or another setting that has provided meaningful experience handling cases, appearing in court, working with clients, and exercising independent professional judgment. A JAG officer looking to transition to civilian practice may also be an excellent fit.

What the Position Offers

  • Fully remote practice. Work from home without a daily commute or an expectation that you sit in an office simply to be seen.
  • No billable-hour requirement. Your value to the Firm is not determined by an annual billing quota.
  • A sustainable workload. We expect our attorneys to work hard and take responsibility for their matters, but chronic overload is not a business model.
  • Meaningful autonomy. You will have responsibility for your own matters and room to exercise professional judgment.
  • Real support. Our attorneys work with an established team of paralegals and support staff rather than being expected to do everything themselves.
  • Varied work. You will handle litigation and contested matters while having the opportunity to develop experience in other areas of practice.
  • Room to grow. As the Firm continues to grow, we want the attorney in this position to grow with it and take on greater responsibility.

Responsibilities

The Associate Attorney will:

  • Take primary responsibility for assigned litigation and contested matters;
  • Appear at hearings, depositions, mediations, and other proceedings;
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents;
  • Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties;
  • Evaluate cases and develop litigation and settlement strategies;
  • Handle other client matters as assigned;
  • Work with the Firm's paralegals and support staff to move matters efficiently; and
  • Work directly with the Firm's owner on more complex matters and the continued development of the Firm's practice areas.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be admitted to and in good standing with The Florida Bar;
  • Have meaningful litigation or courtroom experience;
  • Have strong legal research, writing, and communication skills;
  • Be comfortable taking responsibility for client matters;
  • Be organized and able to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a remote environment; and
  • Exercise sound judgment and professionalism with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and Firm staff.

Approximately three years of practice experience is preferred, although we are more interested in the quality and depth of an applicant's experience than a particular number of years in practice.

Prior experience in the Firm's particular practice areas is not required. We are more interested in finding an attorney who already knows how to practice law, manage responsibility, and exercise sound judgment. We can teach the particular areas of law in which the Firm practices.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary range is $75,000–$100,000, depending on experience.

The Firm also provides:

  • Health insurance reimbursement benefits;
  • Paid time off and Firm holidays;
  • Florida Bar membership and required fees;
  • Required continuing legal education;
  • Professional liability insurance; and
  • Firm-provided technology, legal research, case-management, and support resources.

About The Purdy Firm

The Purdy Firm is a fully remote Florida law practice serving clients throughout the state. Our practice includes probate and estate matters, consumer matters, and a growing range of contested and litigation matters.

We are a small firm by design. Our attorneys have direct responsibility for their clients and matters, supported by a team that allows them to spend their time practicing law rather than navigating a large-firm hierarchy.

We are looking for an attorney who wants meaningful legal work, professional independence, and the opportunity to become an important part of a growing firm while maintaining a healthy life outside of work.

How to Apply

Please email your resume to [email protected] along with a short response to the following two questions:

  • What litigation or courtroom experience has best prepared you to take primary responsibility for contested matters?
  • What about this particular position interests you?

A formal cover letter is not necessary. We are more interested in concise, thoughtful answers to these questions.

Please use “Associate Attorney Application” as the subject line.

Applications that do not follow these instructions may not be considered.
