  • Family Law
  • Estate Planning
  • Residential Real Estate Transactions
  • Commercial Real Estate Transactions
  • Business Purchases & Sales
  • General Civil Matters

Family law experience is strongly preferred. Experience in estate planning, real estate, business transactions, or general civil litigation is a significant plus.

  • Represent clients in family law matters from initial consultation through resolution.
  • Prepare for and attend court appearances throughout Kane, McHenry, and DeKalb Counties.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, settlement agreements, contracts, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and apply statutes, case law, and procedural rules to client matters.
  • Prepare wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other estate planning documents.
  • Assist clients with residential and commercial real estate transactions.
  • Assist with business purchases, sales, and related transactional matters.
  • Manage assigned cases and maintain organized, up-to-date case files.
  • Participate in hearings, depositions, mediations, negotiations, and trial preparation as appropriate.
  • Prepare evidence, organize case materials, and assist with witness and trial preparation.
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding case updates, legal options, strategy, and next steps.
  • Develop and maintain strong, professional client relationships.
  • Manage multiple matters while meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail.
  • Work closely with the firm's owner on case strategy, client representation, and continued development of the practice.
  • Contribute ideas and initiative as the firm continues to grow.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active Illinois Bar license and membership in good standing.
  • 2–4 years of legal experience.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate directly and professionally with clients.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines independently.
  • Professional judgment, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.
  • Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and providing exceptional client service.

Preferred:

  • Experience practicing family law.
  • Experience with estate planning.
  • Experience with residential or commercial real estate.
  • Experience with civil litigation and courtroom appearances.
  • Experience with business transactions.
  • Familiarity with LexisNexis and/or Westlaw.
  • Strong negotiation and advocacy skills.
  • An interest in developing a long-term career within a growing law practice.

The Person We're Looking For

We are looking for more than someone who can simply draft a motion and meet a deadline.

Our clients often come to us during some of the most significant and stressful moments of their lives. We want an attorney who understands the importance of listening, communicating, being honest about expectations, and following through.

The right candidate will be:

  • Client-focused — You genuinely care about the people behind the cases.
  • A strong communicator — You can explain complicated legal issues in a way clients can understand.
  • Independent and accountable — You can take ownership of your work while knowing when to ask questions.
  • Detail-oriented — You understand that the small details matter.
  • Professional but personable — You can build trust without losing professionalism.
  • Adaptable — You are comfortable working across different practice areas and learning new areas of law.
  • Growth-minded — You want to continue developing as an attorney and contribute to the growth of the firm.

Why Join Us?

This position offers the opportunity to become an integral part of a growing local law firm rather than simply another associate in a large office.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Work directly with an experienced attorney and firm owner.
  • Develop meaningful, long-term relationships with clients.
  • Gain experience in both litigation and transactional matters.
  • Take increasing ownership of your own cases and clients.
  • Develop your courtroom, negotiation, research, and drafting skills.
  • Be involved in the continued growth and direction of the practice.
  • Become part of a firm with strong roots in the Fox Valley community.

Our firm is located in a historic building in downtown West Dundee, providing a unique work environment in the heart of the community we serve.
