Associate Attorney

Trueline's client, a growing complex commercial litigation boutique focused on the insurance industry, is seeking an Associate Attorney to join their team onsite in Parsippany, NJ. This role offers big-firm-caliber litigation and coverage work in a small, collaborative office where you'll learn directly from experienced attorneys and take on more responsibility as quickly as you're ready for it.

The firm is open to a wide range of experience levels, from recent law graduates and judicial clerks through eighth-year associates. The right person is sharp, driven, and genuinely wants to learn, work hard, and grow into a strong litigator.

What You'll Do as the Associate Attorney:

• Litigate complex commercial matters, including insurance company business disputes and contract disputes
• Handle coverage matters, from informal coverage opinions to formal coverage and declaratory judgment actions
• Work on claims handling issues and errors and omissions (E&O) claims
• Research and draft motions, briefs, pleadings, coverage opinions, and legal memoranda
• Analyze policy language, facts, and legal issues, and help develop case strategy alongside the firm's partners
• Manage written discovery, document review, and discovery-related motion practice
• Prepare for, take, and defend depositions as your experience grows
• Appear in court for conferences, motions, and hearings, and support trial preparation and trial work
• Communicate with clients and opposing counsel to keep matters moving forward
• Collaborate closely with attorneys across the office, including on matters beyond your own caseload

Must-Haves as the Associate Attorney:

• J.D. and active New Jersey bar admission in good standing, or pending admission for recent graduates
• Up to eight years of legal experience; recent law graduates and former judicial clerks are encouraged to apply
• Substantive litigation experience for candidates with six or more years of practice
• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
• A demonstrated work ethic and a genuine drive to learn, take ownership, and grow as a litigator
• Discipline to record time accurately and meet a 1,900-hour annual billable expectation, with 2,000+ hours as the goal
• Ability to work onsite in Parsippany, NJ, five days a week

Nice-to-Haves as the Associate Attorney:

• New York bar admission (strongly preferred)
• Insurance experience of any kind, including coverage, claims handling, E&O, or insurance defense work
• Complex commercial litigation experience
• Judicial clerkship experience
• Litigation training at a larger firm
• Deposition, motion practice, court appearance, or trial experience
• Real enthusiasm for brief writing and in-depth legal research

Our Client Offers:

• Base salary of $115,000-$175,000, depending on experience, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate
